I scored a set of 18 inch wheels/tires off a 2018 Ram 2500 to replace the 20 inch wheels on my 2018 Ram 2500. The wheels have the original tires, but not sure the TPMS are there. I'm a bit ignorant of them and assume they're associated with the valve stem. Is there a way for me to check without having a tire pulled?

The short answer is no, you'd need some sort of TPMS scanner. I can't imagine they wouldn't be there though given that it's only a year old with the factory tires.

The person I bought them from put a new set of aftermarket wheels on his truck. Would he have had to take the sensors off these wheels and put them in the new wheels? He mentioned he had to buy some kit for the new wheels, but didn't know what it was. I was thinking it may have been new TPMS sensors.

So far I have yet to find a set of used wheels with the TPMS sensors installed in them. They just as you said and keep the sensors on their new wheels.

Can you ask the person you bought them from?
