I'm trying to find info. on servicing or replacing the front (non-serviceable) bearings on my truck. The passenger side is going fast and needs replacing within a couple days.

I did a search and found plenty of info. for the 4x4's but hardly any on the 4x2's.

Has anyone tried to replace these bearings with serviceable bearings? Or is it not possible and or cost effective?

I have been to several auto parts stores and no one here (locally) carries the parts (including NAPA).

Is there anywhere to buy the replacement's besides the dealer?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Truck is a 2001. 5 (newer brake system) 2wd. QC.

Litespeed,

The Timken website show the hub assembly being a part number HA590000. I don't know if you can take that number to a bearing house and have them order or not.

Thanks Kevin... ...

I know... ... . That is part of the problem. Nobody can get the thing. Maybe I am asking for the wrong part?

I called a different NAPA and gave them my VIN #. They are looking into it for me.

I dont understand what the big deal is? It is just a wheel bearing  . Sealed or not? I should still be able to get it... . Right?

Where did you find that info. on the Timken site? I have already been threre and could not find it. I tried running a search on the site too... . Still could not find anything on it.

AJ,

You have to dig around on the Timken website going though four or five pages start with their Online Services off their main page. Here is a link to the application lookup web page.

Part of the problem is that the bearings are not just sealed but they are part of the front hub/bearing assembly. From what I understand, my dad has a 2x4 and I have a 4x4, the hub/bearing assembly is almost identical between the 2x4 and 4x4. The difference between them is that the 4x4 has a splined hole in the middle for the axle shaft to come through. So you are not only looking for bearings but a complete hub/bearing assemble. Now one would think that after five or so years that the aftermarket would have these availible but it is possible that the dealer has some sort of a strangle hole over them and the aftermarket can not release them. So far 122K+ on mine and they are still going, knock on wood.

That is good news because I am striking out. Do they carry the bearings and or hub assemblies for 4x2's as well?

I was at NAPA today to get another BHAF and they could not find the Timken part # listed above. I talked to another member (DHawthorne) and he replaced his a couple years ago. He says the parts that came off his truck were Bosch? But his set up is a year older than mine (different setup).

I dont know what to do?... ..... I guess it is looking like a trip to the stealership... . :{

No one else with a 2001. 5 or 2002 (2wd) has had any front wheel bearing problems?

Is this a dealer only thing, or am I missing something?

Should I go ahead and post this in 911? Truck is about to be down... ...

No... ... .

Been a busy week! I'm still waiting for it to fail. I have been avoiding the interstate. The roar is getting worse. I'm sure it is getting close. My concern now, is what has it done to the brakes that I just replaced? I will try them tomorrow and if they are not available, then 1st thing Monday. Thank you very much for the info. !!!

I have literally called everyplace in the state that I could think of. Besides a salvage yard. I just think components like these should be new (not used).

Everyone I have talked to says dealer only. It really ticks me off when I hear that? I cant believe that a 5 year old truck would not have these parts available yet?
