Need wheel bearing nut removal tool part number front and rear for a W250. Where can I get the tools. If NAPA please give NAPA part number if you can. Take care. Oo.

Bearing Socket

The socket for the rear bearing nut is 2 9/16 hex with round corners, it's stamped and welded construction. Was trying to check if the socket part number given in the service manual was the same for both axles, but onlt the one for the front axle is listed. The part number is C-4170 and made by Miller Special Tool, tried to cross reference it on their web site but it's down.

Hey Jay, when you are in there if you don't like the stock lock nut with wedge set up, e-mail me and I will give you the numbers to set it up with two nuts and a lock ring so you can more accuratly set the preload on those bearings. Tim

Jay the socket for the front is a different size than the rear. I got both of mine from NAPA many years ago. I'll check the size for the front and post it here.

Tim I'd like the p/n for the double nut setup for the rear hub. My nyloc is about wore out.

spicer part numbers

Jeff, here are the numbers and costs last year at my local parts house. Spicer nuts 35270 at 12. 50ea. Spicer locktab washer 35269 at 1. 53 each and the OTC axlenut wrench 7158 (2 1\2") at 23. 14 You know that you want to set these bearings as close to zero preload as you can get them. A little positive preload is ok, but not loose. Most all big equipment and most truck use this set up, but not Dodge, for some reason. Just my 2 cents, but that nylock and wedge suck. Tim

Steve, when going through the procedure by the book to adjust the preload on the bearings, the best you are doing with the nylock is guessing because you have no feel for the nut tightness. If the nyon is brittle, will you reach the torque later and then effect where you back the nut off to and wedge? Or soft nylon, visa versa? Seems like too much guess work. Dodge saved the price of a nut in assembly. Tim

Thank you everybody grate info. The model number OTC 1928 2 9/16" I guess is for the rear, is this the NAPA stock number? What about the front NAPA stock number?????????

nut size

when I worked on my w250, i got a socket set from checker auto parts. I imagine Autozone has them. You buy the kit, then they refund your money when you take it back, so it's sortof a free rental. If it's a hassle to "rent" one, you could take the kit, see which size fits your needs, then take them back and you'd have the sizes to purchase. Good Luck.

Just bought one today

I just bought a socket from NAPA today. It is made by KD Tools. The part number on the sticker is KDS2436. Part number on the receipt is 2436 special tool. Hope that helps.

The part number I gave you is for the rear wheel bearing socket. It will work for your '93. Look in the past TDR magazine to see what the front socket is. I have pulled up to 14,000 lbs, but will be capable of pulling 16,000 lbs as my new trailer is tagged for 16K. The trailer is 5K, so that means I can put 220 bales of hay on I bet the old truck will grunt with that load.

i have a'89 1 ton srw 4x4 withthe heavier 4500Lb front axle are the wheel bearing sockets the same on the 3/4 and 1 tons?...

also looking at the posts it seems a liittle confusing. . what size is the front axle nut 4500lb 1 ton ? what tool #?. . and do the front axles have the same nylock deal or the 4x4 takes car of that?... . on the rear what socket is that?. . and the part #

ps any source for front baalljoints for my rig the loocal pars store says its a dealer only item for the 4500lb front axle argh... .

The Upper ball joint is dealer only. It can be bought in pieces. The most common wear item is a nylon bushing that is cone shaped. The bushing is cheap under $5. each. But if the upper king pin is worn or damaged they are proud of them. $125 each.



The lowers you can get from a parts house. You need Moog numbers K992 & K8832 This is an adjustable lower ball joint.

I just went threw this a couple of weeks ago.



The socket for my front axle nuts is a Snap On S5146

my local parts place couldn't figure out the spicer nut and washer #'s kinda sucks. . i have to figure that out too i'm basically gonna be putting my old vw jetta back on the road to redo the dodges brakes and drive train kinda sucks but it seems as if i might as well sand blast and paint the underneath of the truck . . ha new everything oh well i guess it will be right when its done. .
