Just had my front driver's side wheel bearing replaced at the dealership. When it was done and I got to the window, they told me that DC doesn't cover it under the powertrain warranty. I guess that I consider the engine, transmission, and axles part of the powertrain. The truck had 55,000 miles on it, so it is well within the warranty interval.

Does anyone have experience in getting the front wheel bearings warrantied? Should I think about getting the other side done now before it goes out?

24 hours and still no help. I really would like to get some insight on other members warranty experiences with the front wheel bearings.

I know that they don't cover the wheel bearings under the powertrain warranty. I have heard of cases where the wheel bearings came apart trying to gain access to the front axle universal joint, which is covered, so they had to cover the wheel bearing also as a related repair. The axles, internal parts, shaft and u joints are covered, but the coverage stops right at the wheel bearing (no ball joints either). They should have given you an estimate for the work before they did it, since it is not covered.

Front wheel bearing.

Just had the wheel bearing replaced, Was not covered by Diamler Chrysler. And the part is only available from Dodge. I called and asked, and was quoted price of $ 389 for the part( hub is not servicable) must be replaced as complete unit for 2002. Went to a local tire shop, and had the driver side hub replaced for $295 complete. just shows that Dodge has a high markup. Cause the independent shop made money on the job and charged $94 bucks less than Dodge wanted just for the part. Shop around. "Ironbutt" My truck is 2wheel drive, but was told by Diamler Chrysler that if it was 4wd it would have been covered under my 7/100,000 waranty.
