Dear 315/70R17 owners

Anybody Looking?

Just started looking for 03's here in Jersey. Been looking for a ho qc long bed, but there don't seem to be many long beds around.

Anyway, I saw a short bed in patriot blue and silver and it also had wheel flares that were the same silver. The truck also had chrome nerf bard and chrome bed rail bars. This was a new truck on the lot. I'm wondering if the flares were a trim option or maybe a mopar accessory. I checked out all the options and accessories from Mopar and couldn't find them.

Anyone have any ideas.

Thanks,

Nick

Fender Flares

I don't know of any from Mopar but I just installed a set of Bushwacker Extend-a-Flares and am very happy with them. They stick out about 2" past the side of the truck and are flush with Weld Stonecrushers I just put on.

Are they paintable. I'm looking for something that I can make the same color as the lower part of the truck? I'm looking at buying a blue/sliver truck. Then put on silver wheel flares.

Do you have a pic of the installed flares? Once I move to larger tires, the truck looks like it really wants body colored flares.

Pictures

I got in a little early and took some pics. They are in my reader's rig album. Let me know if you need anything else.

I saw the same flares on a brand new 1/2 ton in L. A. a while back. They matched the lower paint color and looked great, really seemed like they must have come with the truck.

jdh63,

Looked at your pictures, your truck looks sharp. Can you give me some information on your lift height/brand and tire size? Thanks alot.

Lift

Lawdog,

I used a Daystar poly 2" leveling kit in the front, the rear is stock. The tires are BFG AT KO 315/70/17 on Weld Stonecrusher 17"x8" rims.

Dealer ad ons.

NSperduto,

Most likely the dealer added the flares, nerf bars, and rail bars to the truck you saw. Sometime they will do this sort of thing to dress up a truck and get someone to purchase one who otherwise wouldn't. They may also have used it on display at a promotional event. Most dealers carry accessories and many times they are not just Mopar accessories. They make a buck where ever they can.

LOL,

Bill

jdh63,

When you tow with the truck does it sag bad (or appear to sag worse than in stock form because of the front lift?) If you do tow, how much are you towing? Also, what made you decide to go with the aftermarket wheels, did the stock wheels cause the new tires to rub or did just like the new style wheels?

Wheel Flairs

I've got a question about the wheel flairs. Does anyone know of flairs that do not have to have the body drilled? I see Geno's Garage have some for the 03, but they are not functional as far as keeping dirt off the sides. Living in northern NH there is a lot of salt used & a drilled body leads to rust.

Lawdog,

Even with the 2" spacer the rear end still sits maybe 1/2" - 1" higher than the front so when I hook up my trailer to the truck it sits pretty level. I tow an 8' x 18' enclosed tag trailer that weighs 7000 lbs loaded. I'll put a picture of the truck loaded in my album this weekend. I went with the aftermarket wheels for looks only. The stock wheels will have no problems clearing the 35" tires.

Wayne,

The Bushwacker Flares that I installed utilize existing holes in the truck and no drilling of the body is required.

Look at my gallery to see pics of the Bushwacker OE flares on my "03. They are 1/2" wider than the "Street Flares" in the front and 3/4" wider in the rear. They screw into the existing holes, and use a metal clip on areas where there is no hole.

Wheel flairs

CSilkowski:

You have to be careful about blanket statement like that. It may be true in CA. where they are made but in this part of the country no one has heard of them & that includes all dodge dealers for over 100 miles. I did find an aftermarket shop 120+ mi. from me that offers them.

For the gentleman who was kind enough to take pictures of his flairs. How much do they stick out from the body,{ it doesn't look like much, pictures can be deceiving for size ect. } & are they actually functional in keeping rd dirt of the truck?

The front flares stick out 2 1/2" at the 12 o'clock position and 3" at the body side molding point.

The rear set are 3 1/2" at the 12 o'clock point and 4" at the body color change point.

I haven't gotten to use them in the rain/muck yet, as we have not seen rain for 5 weeks now.

My dealer just happend to have a "show truck" on the floor with the flares on it or I would never have known about them. They had a local body and body shop install them.

Are you _sure_ those are the OE flares? The reason I ask is they don't look like the picture on the Bushwacker site (particularly the front of the front flare):

If they are OE, that's great. I don't like the picture of the OE flares on the Bushwacker site, and was going to go with the Extend-a-Fender even though they are probably wider than I need. I do like how yours look like the Extend-a-Fenders. Just wanted to be sure, thanks. .

Edit: Your measurements make me wonder if they are an extend-a-fender, that seems wide for an OE. .

Edit2: The more I compare your pictures and jdh63's, I think yours are Extend-a-fenders too. .

David; You are correct. I've never seen the bushwacker site, I just went by what wa on the dealers order sheet. They either ordered or received the wrong ones. I thought when I picked it up they looked larger than what I remembered from the truck in the show room.

So to correct my old post they are 1/2" wider than the OE in the front and 3/4" wider in the rear. I am assuming that the dealer is correct when he said the showroom truck has OE flares on it.
