I bought a set of OEM 8 lug steel rally type wheels several months ago to go on my '93 D250. These wheel were off of a '97 2500 Cummins. When I got ready to use them a couple of weeks ago I discovered that while my truck has 1/2" wheel studs, the wheels/lug nuts are made for a truck with 9/16" wheel studs. Am I the first person to make this expensive mistake? Are there any means to fit second generation wheels to first generation trucks or do I need to stick with what came on my truck from the factory? Thanks for the help.

There are two sizes of lug nuts for 1/2 inch studs, 3/4" and 13/16" hex. If you use the latter, you will most likely be OK-I've done it before. Check the tapered area of a nut against the taper on the wheel and make sure the nut is big enough.

Thanks for the information Old School. I wish I had asked before I sunk the money into these rims. While on this suject, let me ask a follow-up question. When the truck was new, I put on a set of Superior chrome spoke wheels (16x7) with the original 235-85R-16 Michelins. I replaced them at 28,000 miles with 265-75R-16 Dunlop's. 60,000 miles later, it is now time for a new set of tires. The Superiors have not faired well(rusted and peeling chrome) even with regular cleaning, the 2nd Generation wheels are a bust, so I considering putting back on the factory 16x6 steel wheels. My question R-is if I put the OEM wheels back on, can I stay with 265-75R-16's or will I have to go back to the 235-85R-16's? Again, thanks for all of your advice.

Thanks Old School. What about the original 16x6 wheels? Can I put 265's on them or is 7 inches a minimum when using 265's?
