So, It's tire time. After putting 42k on a set of Toyo Open Country AT 285/75R17 they are done. I've got a new set of Toyo Open Country AT II 285/75R17 on their way as it's been a great tire for me. Now I am stuck trying to figure ot something that should be simple.....

My stock chrome clad 17" wheels are done, brake dust has discolored them and I never was keen on the chrome. I have found the new replacements......

32mm offset with 6" backspace. From what I understand the stock 17's are 45mm offset with a 6.25" backspace.

I just want whatever will be closest to stock..... Am I on the right track?

Cheers and Happy Holidays!

Someone here may know and agree or disagree on fitment, sounds like it is pretty close. Rims are wider than stock, but sounds like the backspace offsets it. Recommend telling the folks who sell them what you want so they have some responsibility.

Yep, those should work fine. The backspace is right to keep from trashing the steering, thats the important part. With .25 less back space an 1/2 wider wheel you could probably put 35x12.5's on there with no rubbing at full lock.

Congrats on getting that mileage on the Toyo's, mine lasted 25k and they were bald. Less than impressed.

Thanks for the answer.... I though they sounded right. I'll stick with my 285/75's as 35's will eat more fuel than needed. I rotated my tires 8 times over the course of 42k..... My tread was 1/16" in the end and evenly worn. After I ordered the new set of tires it dawned on my that..... I need to do ball joints!! A quick call to Tyler at DPP and $800 later I have a set of 4 Carli ball joints on the way!

Tires, rims, ball joints..... What a great Christmas present to myself. I guess I'll turn the rotors and do pads since I'm going in this far.

Wow, surprised the hear low miles on tires. The original BF Goodrich M/S tires got 82K miles, with more tread left, but changes them out as I got my investment. Then the Cooper AT tires got about 84K miles. Went to a Pirelli Scorpion AT 285/70/17LT that are showing great wear too. I purchase the NTB 5-yr front end alignment service for $200 and it more than pays for itself. I have mine rotated/bal every 5k miles and keep fronts inflated at 70lbs and rears 50lbs empty. Next set may be 305s. have to wait to see what deals are out there in a few years.

The Toyo AT's may not crank out the mileage but they are super tough offroad. My friend's racked up at least 1500 miles on horrible roads in northwest Baja without a structural failure or even a flat. Tires have been run aired down to 30# the majority of those miles. His rig weighs 10,800# with aluminum utility bed and popup camper.
The AT2's are guaranteed for 50K in the LT size and that's going on his rig next. Time will tell.
I got 36K no wear bar miles out of mine. Bought them used from a friend who carried a hardsided camper around for 21K of no rotation or rebalance. They got good care from that time on. Their whole life had either a hardsided or popup on them.
