Can anyone tell me the back spacing of a first gen steel wheel. . OR what is the difference between first gen steels and second gen aluminium rims are. I like the look of the second gen rims and I bet they would look nice on a first gen. What I need is rim dimensions and If these rims will fit.

OR pics of a first gen truck with second gen aluminium wheels PLEASE. . Thanks!!

Dave

I have the chrome wheels from a '95 (I believe) on my '90. I think they are 1/2" narrower than the stockers, and the offset is the same making the wheel sit in 1/4" farther than the stock wheels. It isn't very noticable and the wheels look great (for being free). They are great for stock tires, but if I go any wider with the tires I am for sure going with wider wheels with less backspacing. I will try to get pictures.

Second Gen. chrome steel on First Gen.

Dave,

Before I did my dually conversion, I bought the truck from my Dad and it had a set of 2nd Gen. chrome steel wheels mounted with 285/75-16; stock height. The only problem he ran into was mounting the center caps so... he had a set (32) of lugnuts machined from scratch so they would fit. I don't know exactly what year the rims are from but my truck is a '92 and they fit great with no rubbing whatsoever with the aforementioned tires.

My wife's 94 has the factory wheels with a offset of 22mm to the inside. That is, the centerline of the wheel is offset towards the inside. I call this negative offset. My 92 wheel are centered. with out any offset. So by using the later wheels your loseing almost 2 inches of track.
