Bought a wrecked '94' 4X4 12V, in CA, and have to get a brake and light inspection before registering it with DMV. The ABS light will not go out. The dealer diagnosed it and says it is a open loop in the left front wheel speed sensor. But they can no longer get a part for it (it is obsolete). I have tried all the auto parts stores and searched the internet without success. Any ideas?????

Thanks, Tim

Bill,

Thanks for responding. Yes, I did try Napa without success. Some of the trucks have sensors mounted on the differential. This one is located near the front left brake caliper. I have a Raybestos #ABS 530751, but everyone I've tried (dealers, Napa, Kragens and some of the internet sites) have been unable to provide me with one. I really don't care if the ABS works, but I need the light to come on when the key is turned on, then go off in a few seconds, to pass the light and brake inspection.

Thanks, Tim

I've read in another thread that for the rear sensor (in the differential) you can wire an 1800 ohm resister into the circuit, and that will fool the computer into thinking the system is working and the lights will go out. I don't know if it is the same resistance for the front sensors but you could measure the resistance on the other side and try that. Of course the ABS wouln't work.

Can't you just pull the bulb out of the dash for the abs and say the truck never came with ABS? It is not like a check engine light where it was mandated with one and has to come on... It worse comes to worse, pull the abs junk out of the car... . no rules against that. .

Thanks for the ideas. I finally found a used sensor from a recycler today. It works and the light went out. If it happens again I will try the resistor and see if it fools the computer. I have heard the ABS does not work very well on these pickups.

Thanks, Tim
