Well how about this? I have an old 96 F350 dually sitting around with the friction disk out of it. About a month before it went out I put new tires on it. Nothing special, but new. Will the Alloy wheels from the furd dually work on the Ram? Is the bolt pattern the same, how about the offset? Ram rubber is bout shot, thinking of swapping ford to Ram and put the worn rubber and wheels on the furd. Anyone know if it will fit for sure? Will the wheel nuts from the ford wheels work on the Dodge? I think I heard one is metric and one's not.

Cheers

The Furd wheels will bolt up perfectly, I din't know about the lug nuts. I would use the stock dodge lug nuts and use the stock dodge centercaps. seen it before, doesn't look too bad.

The Ram blew up, blown head gasket, so using the whole F350 to deliver trailers. My opinion, it's not the puller my Ram is, but it's running. On way back to Colorado under load. If I quit responding to haul inquiries maybe I'll take a week off. Been out more than a month and I need a break.

Cheers,

I thought the Ford alloy wheels were an 8 x metric pattern whereas the Dodge is 8x6. 5 pattern. In otherwords it may go on and tighten down... but there is a very slight difference that causes the lugs to not align perfectly. That will produce high stress loads on the lug seat area of the wheel and could result in wheel cracking. Somebody tell me I'm wrong cause I know where I can get some nice alloys off a 97 Ford 250. I'll keep my Dodge centers on by the way. :D

Yes, the 17's (3G) should fit fine on your 99. As stated previously, the 2nd gen center caps won't fit on the 3rd gen wheels.

I have a set of 3rd gen alloy wheels on my 99 4x4 SB now. I tried to post some pics here, but I can't figure out the resolution and so on to make the file size work. Will try again tomorrow...

DLausche,

If you cant get the pics to work tomorrow, you can email them to me and I will give it a try.

I thought the 3rd gen caps would not fit on the second gen no matter what wheels you are running (I know they won't work on second gen wheels)? The 3rd gen caps are not as deep and do not allow for enough clearance in the rear.

I am pretty sure 1999 was the first year of the metric lug pattern on the Fords. Pervious year wheels should work ok.

2003 wheels on 2nd gen

Here's one pic that shows my 99 with 17" alloys from a 2003.

I hope the pic comes through. I'll try again if not...

How did you get the rear center caps to fit? I have tried it myself and spoken with one other TDR member who has also found that the caps are not deep enough to seat properly over the lugs. The axle stick out too far from the center of the wheel.

This was with the chrome caps, but I would find it hard to believe they are any different than the grey ones. But (maybe I can answer my own question now) the alloy wheels are thincker than the chrome wheels, by 3/8" at least, so therefore there wouldn't be as much of the axle protruding past the center of the wheel? Just a thought?????

I have the grey center caps from a 2003. They fit no problem at all with the 2003 alloy wheels. You are right about the thickness of the alloy vs steel wheels. The alloy wheel is much thicker in the center. Maybe this is why the caps I have fit. I suppose there could be a difference between the grey plastic caps and the chrome ones, but I wouldn't think that is too probable. Also, is there a difference in the Dana 70 vs Dana 80 axles? My truck is an auto, so I have the 70 axle. I have never seen an 80 up close. Maybe the bigger axle's bearing carrier protrudes further than mine???

My guess is they fit because of the thicker alloy wheels. I can go do some measurements to see how they compare with caps that are not fitting. Let me know if anyone is interested in that.

Deon,

Thanks for the reply. I think the 70's and 80's protrude the same amount, but for reference mine is a 70 also. It must be the thickness of the wheels.

In this thread zues said he used some alum. spacers to move the wheels out about 1/4" to make the center caps fit.

Thanks for the pic DLausche! Looks great!
