wow, attacking people in a state that you think is "down" from KY...



The point of the whole thread, I believe, is that there is absolutely no reason for Diesel to cost as much or more than gas. and what can be done to bring it down to where it should be in relation to what it costs to make compared to gas.

Let's not take it somewhere as low as insulting where someone from another bb lives :rolleyes:
 
Any idea or instructions how to make Bio-Diesel, also thoughts of using it in our Cummins. One could add, if Oil or Fat, we have enough walking around on our streets to put the oil companies out of business, and the Middle East futher back into the Stone Age. Scrum Down

Wow!! $1. 59. 9/gal. Diesel. That's a bargain compared to Phoenix, AZ. The best price in town, last week, was $1. 69. 9, at the Flying J. I ran across a dodge with a horse trailer that had just run out of diesel so I stopped at a local Texaco station to get him a couple of gals. of diesel. Paid $1. 99. 9/ gal. Saw on the Flying J website Oklahoma City had it for $1. 31. 9. Almost packed my bags and moved.
 
well if I am going acroos town I can get diesel for $1. 499.

The closest stations are $1. 599 to $1. 699.

Down in SC you can get B5 bio for $1. 469...

anytime I leave town I carry 3 5gallon cans so if I see a deal I fill up the cans:rolleyes:
 
Oil prices

Why has no one said even a peep about drilling for more of our own oil,Alaska,

offshore,some states still have oil in the ground and don't pump it! at these prices any oil pumped should pay a profit,If they can line our hills with those ugly windmills

then why not oil drilling out beyond the 12 mile limit??? off our coast,some people cannot see the forest for the trees,Mexico

pumps oil over here and we refine it and send it back to sell back to the US? This cycle

of GREED has got to stop or the economy

will never recover. Also while on the subject of greed I read where 6,000 jobs a month

are going overseas!buy cheap labor and

So let's say you find fuel for $0. 20 a gallon cheaper somewhere. I suppose you'd fill up your cans. That's a savings of $3. And that's at $0. 20 a gallon cheaper. Hey, I reckon every little bit helps. ;) Might as well top off your truck while your in there.



Personally I drive around in my 36 / 40 mpg, 4 banger as much as I can. That saves some money too. Combine trips, and do go anywhere unless I really need to, or just want to REAL bad.



However, I haven't spent any money on gas or diesel in the past 4 weeks, and won't spend any money on gas or diesel for 3 more weeks. I'm in South Korea right now. Gasoline here is ~$4. 60 a gallon, and diesel and LPG are ~$3. 05 a gallon.

Does anybody here remember the ALASKA PIPELINE? Wasn't that supposed to keep prices under control & reduce the lines at the pump? What ever happened to that?

Yup, I top off the truck too. When I bought the cans there was a . 40 difference between where I was living(Pittsburgh) and where I was traveling through on a regular basis(VA) . The cans made it so I didn't have to pay $1. 989 a gallon for diesel last winter in Pitts.
 
*I* have always wondered if the already artificially high European fuel prices rise and fall in time with ours - and if not, why not? If ours are planned to see an all-time high this year, what are Europe's doing?
 
Price of oil over there

It is amazing how soon the price of Gas goes up after the increase in oil over in rag head heaven is announced, until the pump price goes up in the States ! no tanker in the world can reach the US that fast. The Alaska Oil supply has to much "sulphur"or

so they say,BS, so we made a deal with Japan they buy our Alaska oil cheap, and they buy and send us rag head oil in exchange that is low"Sulphur",now they say that the oil Co. 's are going to remove the"suphur" here in the states but it will cost more money at the pump. (neverless):mad:

What happened to that is that oil fields don't last forever. At peak production, the TAPS (Trans Alaska Pipeline System) was moving right at 2. 0 MMBPD (2 million barrels per day; 1 barrel = 42 U. S. gallons). The last I heard, throughput was down to around 0. 8 MMBPD, and every other pipeline station was shut down as they don't need the BHP to move the lower volumes.



The new oil from ANWAR would be transported using the unutilized existing capacity on TAPS.

Lets look at it another way.



The light diesel truck market has exploded. Diesel trucks aren't farm trucks and haulers anymore. They are commuter trucks, family haulers and a way to tow the jet ski to the lake. Much more truck than most people need. But, people are willing to pay more for the a big diesel truck for the size and mileage.



Now, with that many more diesel engines on the road, the increased demand for diesel affects the price. Since 1998, the diesel fuel consuption in Texas alone has increased from 11,000 gallons per day to 14,500 gallons per day. That's over 1. 2 million gallons per year in Texas alone. Not counting other states.



Demand increases, refineries are running at full capacity.



Simple economics.



Higher demand + lower supply = higher prices

That and taxes. I drove from NY to Ky last week and experienced prices from a high of 1. 89 to a low of 1. 39 -- IMO the only difference is how much the state gets.



Two stations two miles a part --one in NY ; 1. 89 the other in NJ; 1. 59 cross the river in to PA and its 1. 73..... and to boot in NJ there are no self service stations, they pump it for you for less than you can pump it yourself in NY.



But thinking of reasons to drive to NJ are hard to come by. :D
