They never stop taking orders for new trucks, but when you order in the year might determine what model year you end up getting.

For example I ordered my truck in Oct. of '03, it was built in Dec. 03 so it's an early 04 model. If I had waited till November to order It would have been built in January and would be a late 04 model.

It varies by the motor vehicle manufacture, but they generally stop taking orders for the current year in July or August.

Do you think it might be earlier this year with the new body style after the break?

I wonder if you could even find a dealer to order anything right now, with the excess inventory? I have yet to see a new body style 1500 around here on the road, BUT have seen a few sitting at the dealer, sales are pretty slow, at least in these parts.

I assume you want a 3rd gen rather than a 4th gen and that's why you are asking?

Does anyone know if they are making anything right now? I know they had idled most or all plants including the one here in St Louis for a while, I'm not sure if it's back up or not.

Hi Jeepr ...

I think I want to buy a 1500 crew cab hemi 4x4 this time, a 6. 7 diesel would be too much truck for me. I miss my truck and could kick myself for selling the 5. 9 diesel, but the new 1500's have more creature comforts:). I'm sure I could get 17-20+ mpg with the gasser, most of my driving is hwy.

That's a good question. With the way the whole auto industry is turning upside down, who know what their next move is. They got to do what they got to do in order to survive. I'd call some dealers and ask them. First dealer I'd call is Dave Smith in Kellogg, Idaho, since their the worlds largest Dodge Dealer. Click DaveSmith.

MY $0. 02 is to buy the truck now and get a great deal on a 2009 3/4 or 1 ton truck from dealer stock. The dealer might be able to shop other dealers for what you are looking for and still get you a great deal. I believe most dealers want to sell off inventory and are will to deal.

I have seen the 1/2 ton 2009 Ram and they look great on the outside but way way to much chrome plastic on the inside. Almost like siting in a ford supper duty including the air vents. I guess if I was to get a 2010 HD, I would need to get out black spray paint and tone down the dash and all the chrome plastic.

tdinut, the 2010 2500/3500 will have the same interior, thus creature comforts, as the 2009 1500. But, I also confirmed they are building again here in St Louis... 1500's and 2500's with Hemi's, not sure about Cummins.

If I remember correctly, Dodge stopped taking orders for the last of the HD 2002 models in April or May of '02 with the last trucks of that style rolling off the line in early summer. The new 3rd gen trucks were on the lot in early August of '02 as 2003's. The first batch were all Hemi powered units and the diesels started to show up a few weeks later. I would assume that in ordinary economic times, they would probably follow the same pattern.

Since the 1500's are already out in the new body style, I would assume you should be able to place an order at almost any time for those.

I've been searching all the local dealers online ...

and the inventory is next to nothing now. According to Dodge's website, the current deals "expire" 3-31-09. I'm sure there will be more deals on the way. I plan on talking the dealer, where my friend and I purchased our previous vehicles from, towards the end of the month and see whats up. Thanks for the input.
