In doing a search for the Killer Dowel Pin "KDP" issue I found the cummins part numbers. - dealer has them for just under 50 dollars.

Ma Mopar has the seal and gasket (part number 4638719 gasket, 4429353 front seal) for 54 dollars).

Fel-pro has a timing seal kit - theoretically with seal and gasket - part number TCS 45902. I can get that from Autocrap (autozone) for 34 dollars.

Any idea if it's the same quality gasket as cummins? - with the plastic protector and all??

I'm trying to get ready to do this to give me peace of mind.

Thanks!

Dan

You don't need a gasket.

I got a look at the directions from Cummins. They say to use silicone sealer. There isn't anything that is located with precision from the front cover so it isn't necessary.

Use only genuine Cummins seals and gaskets throughout the engine. Fel Pro stuff is garbage. I've had to take a head off an engine that had a Fel Pro head gasket on it. The materials are so different.

I dont know about Fel-Pro and Cummins but I used to build a lot of engines and would not use anything but Fel-Pro and never had any failures at all that were gasket related. Especially liked them for head gaskets but these were gasser motors never more than 13-1 compression.

I still have the blown Fel Pro gasket hanging next to my box in the shop, and have also a Cummins one from when we rebuilt the racer's engine. If you looked at the two, you'd never believe that that was a Fel Pro gasket. I too always used Fel Pro with my Blown and Nitroused 5. 0 Mustang (R. I. P. ) and swore by them until I saw what they offered for the Cummins. I guess their game is with the smaller gasser motors. The heavy duty engines are really a horse of a different color.

Gaskets

I feel exactly the same as Deezul 1 about Fel-Pro gaskets. I have rebuilt a good number of engines, mostly gassers and a few diesels and Fel-Pro is all I will use. I have never seen a gasket related failer either when using Fel-Pro. The biggest thing I like is their head gaskets. Of course I have no idea how they rate with the Cummins. If I were to rebuild a Cummins I would probably use Cummins gaskets. I did however use a National timing cover seal on my truck when I did the "KDP" which is working great and looked exactly the same as the Cummins seal except with a different part number. I bet the same company made them both.

LOCTITE!

I used Loctite gasket maker, its in a "squeeze cheeze" type of can, sticks real well no leaks. Front main seal 24. at Cummins.

All inner bolts are tight now, pin "tabbed"... no more worries!:)
