Recently had to replace steering box on this truck posted under Steering Gremlins, well that problem solved. About a week later now replacing the clutch, kept hearing "noise" on trip last Saturday and kept thinking the radio but when I started paying attention every time I shifted could here it and then the light went on, throw-out bearing. Have new everything coming from South Bend but have question about the hydraulics? They recommended going to local supplier and getting new unit versus factory. My question is, is there an upgraded factory unit, I can buy new factory for about ten more than local after market supplier? Is there a later model year a better option? Going to call South Bend back tomorrow but any input greatly appreciated. As far as I know nothing ever replaced in clutch area, since I am in there I will replace all of it, hate to just replace throw out and have to go back later for other problems, especially approaching 300,000. Thanks again all!

The hydraulic unit that came with my clutch lasted about 10,000 miles, i went to auto zone and bought one for 150.00 and you can bleed it, been on for over a year and still works fine,Monte

Who is "They"? Are you saying SBC recommended OEM hydraulics? I wouldn't think so considering they offer one of, if not THE best replacement hydraulics systems on the market. I ran one of theirs for several hundred thousand miles and sold many of them when I worked at a repair shop. The only problems we ever saw out of the SBC units ended up being owner install errors.

Just want to update, yes South Bend made the recommendation. Gave them the specifics of what was done to my truck and what I do with it. They recommended the clutch that would do the job for me, completely adequate and just slightly above what was needed but nothing overkill. Installed the 1947-OKHD and a new clutch fork, I did inquire again about hydraulics but was assured by South Bend no need for heavy duty upgrade as I was not installing some monster clutch capable of untold horsepower. Now the results, I have a new stock hydraulic unit but just have not installed yet, one in truck has 270,000 on it and feel only a matter of time. New clutch is butter smooth, much less pedal pressure than old stock unit. Also had been chasing a drive line vibration starting around 60 mph and would not go away, had been through everything. You could barely feel it in the shifter and see it in the mirror, it is now complete gone. Great folks at South Bend, it is great to have people only recommend what you need and not try and overkill it just to improve a sale!

I agree with you on South Bend but when I replaced my clutch on my 03 2500 with the exact same clutch you did I went ahead for the over kill because in 171,000 miles I changed the oe hydraulics 3 times. Worth the extra money and over kill for me.

I've had a couple of face to face conversations with Peter from SBC, and he is a down to earth type of guy. He really knows his business, and yes he's not into selling anything you don't need, he's also not afraid to tell it like it is. His goal with his company, is to produce the best clutch for the applications they were intended for. I expressed the need for the my SBC DDS-3250, but that I didn't like the noise it produces with the trans as well as the clutch when engaged, and he told me to call him when I get my issue solved with my surging issue, (long story) and he would sell me at cost the 1947-OKHD. I will not take him up on his offer, but thats the type of business owner he is, he wants to make sure his customers are completely satisfied. I will not concider any other brand when I convert my G56 to the NV5600 and step down to a lesser HP clutch, because I know it will be the best I can buy for my truck.

Totally agree. Not many around like Peter and SBC anymore.
