When merging, every other car doesn't apply to most? Why?

I dunno about the hands free. Do you drive with your hands at 10 and 2 when not shifting, then find it difficult to manage a phone? I mean, your just holding something to your ear, not brushing your teeth and washing your hair.

The only time my hands are at 9 and 3 (more race car style) is when I"m having some fun or something that require a very sensitive touch and accuracy, typically pushing the truck beyond normal conditions. And when doing such I'm NEVER on the phone, and typically telling the passenger to STFU and radio off.

Normal driving, I"m accustom to one hand on the wheel style.

As far as bad drivers. everyone has their issues.

10 & 2 is so BAB (Before Air Bags) Modern high performance street driving is to hold the wheel low and shuffle it with two hands. No hand over hand. That is what I learned in code 3 driving school a few years ago. Oo.

The small amount of un-official training I got kinda encourages 9 and 3 and shuffling. Then again, also depends on the wheel you have as well to a small degree.

Seacoastonline.com: New traffic circle can cause confusion

heh, driving over the middle. . ha ha ha haha... Should lose his privilege to drive.

Comments from Fark.com community are typical priceless

FARK.com: (3228946) Not news: People still don't know how to use traffic circles. (With pics and video)

Yep, those round-abouts look pretty confusing,,,,,LOL

kinda of reminds me back in my Houston days, Rice Blvd and University Drive which run on the North side and South side of Rice University. There used to be HUGE oak tree's and the road circle around the tree's in fact the curbing is still there in the outline of where the road curved around the tree. Too many people ran into the tree and killed themselves, the tree's were cut down.

this was in the early 60's if i recall. 40 years later in all parts of this country and others people still can't manuever around circle's/round-abouts. If you are in doubt drive around Wash DC sometime around all of the circles, quite a hazardous adventure.

Hey Jason,

I drive 494 from 394 to SSP about 4-5 times a week. I deal with these idiots who can't merge 20 times a day. I finally quit caring. The easiest thing to do is not give them an inch. I don't mean be aggressive and try to run them off the road. What I men is do what you need to do and let them adjust. I've found if I try speeding up, then they finally wake up and do the same... creating a problem for both of us. If I slam on the brakes, as soon as I start slowing down they finally notice and hit the brakes themselves. If I just drive the way I have to, sure it scares the crap out of a few people, but they can adjust easier than I can.

Nuttin better than having that jerk in a Lexus fly by you just before the freeway ends and them catching up to him at the first stoplight a mile or two later. That's where I'll park my front bumper nice and close so he can't even see me in his mirrors. All he gets to see is deer killer.

I guess having said this I still smoke out the occassional would be idiot merger... gotta blow the carbon out every now and then ya know.

Jason,

I'm not saying you're wrong or unreasonable to be aggravated, but if any type of accident happens when you display your "give it right back to 'em" tactic, don't be surprised if your insurance company hesitates or even refuses to cover your damage or provide a legal defense for you where the other motorist has damage or injuries. It doesn't matter whether or not you got out.

To repeat the advice of many others, it just isn't worth it.

The past year I have done a lot of long distance driving, most idiots tend to flock to the city. My best guess is they figure there are enough supports they might survive. Driving between home an dmy parents every time you get near a large city you instantly manage to find a lot of idiots. The first time I found people properly merging in construction was by a little town in NY called White Post I belive. One from my way, one from your way and this was in rush hour traffic! Never had to stop, just slow down. And if we cannot handle talking and driving, guess we better get rid of them darn newfangled citizen band radios that couse so many accidents.

IMHO the problem is perception and lack of training. People belive driving is a right, not a privledge. And BTW my driving sucks! Anybody who has ridden with me will say that also, especially in a new area I don't know.

Anyway, I don't even care anymore. I drive the speed limit. Somebody wants or needs over, I let 'em in. Somebody crowds me, I pull off and let 'em by. It just ain't worth it.

Yeah, same here. But I seldom get intimidated driving my truck, the wifes car is another story.

Think about the effort involved?

1) Lift right foot off of diesel peddle = 1 calorie

2) Place right foot on brake peddle = 1 calorie

3) Press lightly on brake peddle = 2 calories

4) Remove right from brake peddle = 1 calorie

5) Put right foot on diesel peddle = 1 calorie

5) Press lightly on diesel peddle = 1 calorie

A whole days work out?

I don't think it is worth any hassle either... .

I run to South St Paul a few times a week with a 53 foot reefer full of pallets of salt on an icy trailer floor and I have 2 of those stupid exits to make to get in where I go and it doesnt matter if I come in at 11 pm or 4 am I always have at least one moron trying to cut me off. Then the pallets slide and poke holes in the trailer walls when you have to stop fast and steer faster. Last week I just gave up trying to be nice and pushed one guy right back onto the freeway with me. He told me I was number one when I went past him but when he exited with me I was ready to get shot at but he went the opposite direction of me.
