The fuel is already treated in the winter, I haven't used additives in years.

No fuel problems, ever.

I plug mine in when it gets around 40 and less. The main reason is that my trip to work is so short that I don't want the heater pulling the batteries down unnecessarily. That and the engine struggles to get to operating temp before I arrive at work. Any help heating up is a good thing.

I don't plug in much, only really focus on remembering if it's going to be below 0. I do use an additive for gelling, occasionally when ice fishing up in the mountains that can come in very handy. The block heater thing, merely a convenience not a necessity. It's nice to have a warm truck though, helps heat the inside faster!

Last winter I only plugged it in when it went 5 degrees or more below zero. I never had any problems starting or running when warmer. Luckily it hasn't gotten to that temperature yet.

Install block heater

Can I add a block heater to a 2004 3500 SRW HO engine? I found a truck on a lot that is perfect, except for the lack of the heater. I found one web site referring to a kit for a second gen engine. I just sold my 1998. 5 DC so I cant look to see.

Thanks in advance for advice.

That truck should have the heater installed, I believe "ALL" the Cummins have the heater

Good luck with your choice

Thanks, and I hope so. I saw another post/thread saying that it was installed, but not the electrical plug in cord. You have to buy that from Dodge or Cummins, less expensive from the latter. We will see by tomorrow if all goes well today!
