Just flipped 'em off...err over

I have 108,000 miles on my original shocks on my '91 - rides better than new! Bit softer than when new, and it needed that, but no bounce or sign of fluid leaks, so I'll just keep on truckin'... #ad

I've got 51K miles on my truck. Other than feel, is there any recommended mileage interval on when to replace shocks?

John, the shocks they are putting on the newer trucks are absolute garbage at best. I have had three sets of OEM shocks in 60K, alll replaced under warranty. If you want to know how bad yours are put on a new set. I bought a set of Rancho 9000's to put on mine and am very happy with them. I could have had another set of OEM shocks free, but I am tired of bad ride after a few thousand miles. My truck is run on the highway exclusively by the way, no offroading or other mischief to tear up shocks.

John,

I have 112,000 on my shocks. Have never changed them. Have towed a lot of weight too. My shocks are OEM.

When I start getting a bouncy ride I'll switch to the Rancho 9000, lots of folks seem to really like them. Most of our driving is on the interstate.

I also will add some type of air pillow to help support the 14k 5er, and horse trailer.

100k mi on oems

IMHO they should be replaced at the dealership when delivered with adj Ranchos, best of both worlds for m/t and partial to full loads. Better ride and control on and off road.

The Ranchos were ordered this morning. Got em at hotrod-offroad.com. Good price, too.

$244. 96 incl shipping #ad

Thanks for the input. I really don't know whether I need the shocks right now. I was going to replace them when I got new tires(probably sometime next spring) but I decided to beat the rush and spread out the expense.

If you get the cab control with the 9000s be sure to do two things. Lighly grease (lithium-based ONLY) the o-rings before you install them on that air lines. Get some good air valves for the air bleed lines. I had leak problems with the original valves. I did the above to my setup and the leaks stopped.
