Tomorrow I am welding the exhaust together and had the notion to disconnect the batteries beforehand. Should I also discon the ecm and pcm as well? It's a good practice to do anyhow on ant car but I know the systems on the ctds are very sensitive.

my pipefitter doesn't

He's never touched the batteries on my truck. He welded in the muffler replacement pipe back when and more recently he did some hanger work on my 5" system as well as welded on my HO-made 5" tip.

But it can't hurt.

My remote 4" brake keeps seperating the exhaust , blowing soot out of evey orfice that it can find and is getting EXTREEMLY annoying! So Between that and all the exhaust leaks I am gonna fix that lil red waggons ... wagon

TTMT,

I had the same problem with my remote Pac Brake. I welded it up from the Down pipe out and it even stops a little better. I actually engoyed welding it up.

Well with everything else welded I can only expect to have a leak at the hx40 v band clamp and that I can deal with ... ... it's just everything else that is killing me. I can only produce 12 lbs of back pressure at it's highest with all the leaks :(

Tim,

Make sure you hook the work lead a close to the welding site as possible. And clean of the pipes with some emery paper. You need to get the aluminized coating off so that you have a sound weld. Then just before you weld, clean the area with acetone or something similar.

All I did was disconnect the batteries. It works out fine for basic short arc wire welding. I burned up my buddies CB in his 92 CTD while TIG welding his aluminum stock trailer. It was hooked to the pickup and I didn't even think about the battery. :( TIG welding is a little diffrent deal though, very high frequency.

Sometimes it's just that simple!!!

How's life out west?? Hey, look, following in TDR standards... the thread goes off topic just after a few posts!!!

yeah, so?:p

life out west? ugh, i hate Laramie. all the other towns are 45 miles away, one town with a population of 100:rolleyes: i cannot wait to graduate and come home for good.

ah did you enjoy it? (they have a new building for diesel now). the shop work is fun, and usually keeps us pretty busy, but the stupid sign-offs take forever. and the lecture is dead boring.

i just finished Fluid Power and Electrical yesterday and am starting Engine Management Systems and Refrigeration Monday. then ASM in January.

yeah, who the heck would want to live in Centennial?? it has a population of 100!!:eek: literally in the middle of nowhere.

well, i gotta go to Fort Collins or somewhere to gey away today:{
