(New Haven-WTNH, Mar. 2, 2005 10:00 PM)_ New Haven police say all they did was stop the woman for running a red light. They were stunned when she suddenly collapsed.

Tonight the woman's family is asking questions.

by News Channel 8's Michael Herzenberg

In the last couple of hours the medical examiner released its final report on the death. A brain aneurysm is the official cause of death.

The family's attorney says he has witnesses who contradict the police version of events and he's moving forward to help the family.

Sadie Pinnock, grandmother, says,"They hurt my granddaughter they hurt my granddaughter and I have to find the truth. "

Sadie Pinnock thinks New Haven police are responsible for the death of her granddaughter Lakeia Dunkley on her 24th birthday Tuesday night.

Pinnock says,"I think that the cops beat her. I think that the cops manhandled her because they stop her for a running a light. My granddaughter wouldn't do that. "

New Haven police say Dunkley ran a red light on Chapel Street in front of an undercover narcotics unit.

Asst. Chief Bryan Norwood says,"They are in an unmarked vehicle and they had the support of a marked vehicle. "

Police say they pulled over Dunkley at Chapel Street and Sherman Avenue.

Police say they never touched her, that she got out of the car, collapsed and died. The medical examiner says she died of a brain aneurysm but police are still investigating.

Chief Francisco Ortiz says,"We've been in contact with the state's attorneys office they're going to allow us to look at this investigation ourselves otherwise they would have handled this independently. It's a tragedy. "

Michael Jefferson, family attorney, says,"We don't believe that the police can investigate themselves. "

An attorney for the family says he and city alder woman Barbara Gorham-Walker just want to hear from the witness, the man police say was inside the car with Dunkley.

"It's not the medical report. Where is the witness? That witness is almost a member of the family where is the witness?"

Barbara Gorham-Walker says"There's a lot of questions that are not being answered. So yes I do and if they want to prove me wrong than they should bring out the witness, and let him tell us what happened.

There is a witness, a man identified by the family as Rasheem Pittman.

Police say they've talked to him at length but they are not revealing what he said.

Who knows!? I kind of remember when people used to die for unexplained or weird reasons and left it at that. They found out WHAT killed them, but didn't try to blame it on everyone else!

Good god they won This is America

(New Haven-AP, June 30, 2005 6:48 AM) _ New Haven police have been named in a wrongful death lawsuit involving a 24-year-old woman who died during a traffic stop.

An autopsy found that Lakeia Dunkley died of natural causes, a brain aneurysm. But attorneys for her estate take issue with the conclusion. They also question why the woman was pulled over by police in the first place.

Police say Dunkley died March First after being pulled over for making an illegal turn.

New Haven Corporation Counsel Thomas Ude says he's seen nothing to suggest that Dunkley's death was anything other than what the autopsy report showed.

Police said they pulled her over for a traffic violation, that she was agitated and then collapsed when she reached back into her car to retrieve her registration.

Even a BETTER one!

A few weeks ago, a minority teen was killed when a city worker hit him, this is the best part!!!!!!!!!

The teen was riding an ILLEGAL!!!!!!! dirt bike on city streets. He was being FOLLOWED by police, NOT chased. The teen was speeding and police were ordered to FOLLOW and OBSERVE for public safety reasons.

Well, the teen blows a red light SPEEDING ON AN ILLEGAL DIRT BIKE and just happens to get hit by a WHITE city employee!

Since this has taken place, they have been riots, marches, protests.

The family as well as some minority leaders want answers from police as to why this happened.

Sounds pretty easy to understand from where I'm sitting!!!!!!!!!

That's because you're sitting in the seat of someone with logic, reason, and sensibility.

Those three things are becoming increasingly more rare!

We need another Depression!! Seriously-- we need to have it HARD for a while, so people would get off their lazy butts and not have so much time to be ignorant fools.

Something they fail to mention is that if the woman jumped out of her car in the typical Jerry Springer "hollering and raving" mode that we see so often today, she might have had the aneurysm from the increased blood pressure - what they used to call "apoplexy". Urban women seem to have those hollering fits at the slightest provocation nowadays.

A couple of months ago I was in Palmdale CA on a business trip, and my hotel room happened to be on the ground floor and just across a small street from a dentist's office. As I was packing the morning I left, I heard a small "thud" followed by the most incredible screaming and raving. Looking out the window, I see a several women in scrubs and a teenaged boy, who is trying to hold one of the ladies back. This woman is very large, I would expect her to dress out at about 250, and she is screaming every obscenity known to man at the top of her lungs at another woman who is also upset but comparatively calm. After watching the screaming and raving for a couple of minutes, I figure out that the large woman was backing out of a parking place while the other woman was pulling into the parking lot. Big Mama backed into the other woman's car and dented in her whole door. Big Mama's car has no damage beyond a few inches of the black plastic bump guard on her back bumper being peeled off and dangling.

As the other woman looks sadly at her car door, Big Mama is jumping in and out of her car screaming at the top of her lungs and dashing back and forth to the rear bumper. Every time she gets close to the bumper, she points at the dangling piece of plastic and screams and raves and waves her arms over her head like it's the Titanic hitting the iceberg, then she tries to lunge at the other woman, her teenage boy each time grabbing her and holding her back. I was absolutely amazed at the volume of the woman's screaming - I could hear her clear as a whistle inside the hotel room 50 yards away. I thought sure she would have a stroke and drop dead in the parking lot. All the other people on the scene were watching her with mouths hanging open, must have thought she was crazy.

Eventually Big Mama jumps back into her car, tries to put the seat belt on but can't buckle it so she starts yanking and screaming and wrestling with it, finally slings it down, starts the car and takes off out of the parking lot burning rubber... . but didn't close her door. As she tries to turn, her door flies open and the bottom edge hits the concrete curb, dinging the corner nicely. She screeches to a stop, LEAPS out of the car like Superman and looks at the door, then clutches her head and starts screaming and raving even louder! Son wearily crawls out of the car, just in time to grab Big Mama as she charges at the other woman again, apparently having deduced that it's the other woman's fault she is too stupid to shut her car door.

I absolutely LMAO, and was secretly hoping that #1 Son would fail to grab her in time so that she would actually get to the other woman, it would have been great to see the much-abused other gal whop Big Mama upside the head with her purse :-laf :-laf :-laf

Nothing like civilized discourse to help us all get along :D

Yet another reason to reform our civil courts to "looser pays". We are the only civilized society where I can sue you and, if I loose, walk away with no obligation for causing you to spend money defending yourself. Other countries force the looser to pay the other's expenses.

I bet that would cut down on frivolous lawsuits like this.
