I was six years old when Pearl harbor was attacked. I can remember some of that day, and the disbelief of the family and all the neighbors. Lots of fear and tears. I can honestly recall reading the headlines next day. I did not understand anything but the fear and tears, and that something bad had happened.

The free world reacted and joined hands to fight two wars half a world apart. No politics, no idealogical battles, just common resolve.

Today, an act far more cowardly, more senseless and more incredulous was enacted on our very own soil. Tens of thousands of occupants of the Trade Center were murdered. TWO HUNDRED FIREFIGHTERS were killed rescuing victims. TWO HUNDRED!

As a former fire department member, you cannot begin to feel what that means to those of us in such honorable duty.

Now, to my point. Where are the Canadians, the Mexicans, all the European countries who claim to be our friends when we need them? Where are their paramedics, search and rescue teams, offers of assistance? Remember the earthquakes around Mexico City? Who was there? U. S. A. Who defined the victory of the Nicaraguans over Communism? U. S. A. What Canadian cannot recall the many times we have come to the financial and wartime aid of our friends to the North? What would have become of Great Britain had we not supplied the majority of their tactical fighting equipment and Hundreds of thousands of American men ?

Looks like we are on our own, and maybe it's actually better that way, but by God, where are they??

Giving blood tomorrow, hope you all think about doing the same.

God Bless America

God bless the President

Ron:(

only thing i've heard so far is Israel is sending some search and rescue teams... should be pretty good, they get a lot of practice

What friends? They all scream for us to come to thier rescue, pay thier bills, fight thier wars.

When we need help, they send sincere sounding condolences.

Ron, things were a bit different with Pearl Harbor. Every plane had a "return address" on it.

Fighting these guys will be a completely different type of war. This is hit and run guerilla war battles. There is no battle line or borders.

WW2 was way before my time, but my Dad tells me that Canada was still flying the Union Jack, so being that they were already in it, I'm sure they were happy to have us along on their side.

I DO agree that they could send S&R teams doctors, nurses supplies, etc.

I agree with PW.

I went in to work early this morning, 5:30 am west coast time.

It was about 8:15 when Shanti called me at work and told me what happened.

I thought it was late and not one of my staff showed up for work, i at that time did not know what had happened.

Terrorism wins if we now turn on each other as free countries.

We had something in our nations that was taken from each and every one of us today.

Reacting out of anger and seeking revenge will help in the short term, believe me i know this from personal experience when my sister was shot.

We cannot let this cowardly act take away the what makes America great, that is your freedom, it is a time to grieve , and I do this with you , it is a time to stop, use our resources and stand together, find out who did this, and make them answer and pay for their actions.

This is my sons 19th birthday, there is no party at our house, i cant speak for my government. What can we do as Canadians,

I know what we have and are trying to do as a country,

Canadian airports are closed, Vancouver international airport has closed and cancelled all flights domestically and internationally, the only aircraft landing in our country are the American flights not allowed to land in the US.

We are comforting your people as best as we can in our airports, our flags are half mast, we are donating blood, we are crying right along with you, these victims no matter who they were or what nation they originated from were fathers, mothers , sons and daughters as are we.

The only way these terrorists will win is if we become so afraid that we allow them to take away our freedom.

To each and every one of you , our prayers are with you.

The time to complain will be when we decide to strike back and our allies will not allow us to launch the strike from airfields in their country. Give thanlks that we have Aircraft carriers so we do not have to kiss someone's posterior to get permission to launch.

Friends in Canada

People here were lining up this afternoon at blood banks to donate blood for the victims.

Unbelievable what has happened in your country today, words cannot express the overwhelming nature of this tragedy.

Deepest sympathy to any members of the TDR who had family injured or hurt in this insanity.

They're on our side....

Have you read any of the news?

THE WORLD IS HELPING!!! Even Cuba offered to open up their airspace and airports to the US if we need them! Russia offered help. The EU is holding an emergency meeting in the morning. China sent word. Russia sent word, so did Iran. Mexico offered help..... England offered help, so did Germany. Word has come in from Japan offering assistance.

Just because the TV news is focusing solely on the actual reaction here doesn't mean there isn't international reaction and support. Go to the news web sites and read the world reaction... we won't be in this alone.

I didnt mean to have my post taken as a slam on Canada, or any other free nation for that matter. It wasnt meant to be.

I just meant to say that this is a completely different type of war. Something that most Americans (and Canadaians) have never dealt with.

Were dealing with people (loosly used term) that have very little value for human life, and no rule book.

I for one feel that swift decisive, and overwhealming action is the answer... ... but then again I feel this way about most things.

Cooler heads than I run this country. Hopefully they'll do their investigations, and get to some a$$ whoopin soon.

My humblest apologies to those that may be offended. We're on the same side.

I think I'll withhold judgement for awhile. IF Bush has the balls to do something to avenge the dead, then lets see how much the other countries offer to help.

After watching him tonight on TV, not sure if he will do what needs to be done. I hope I am misjudging him and he stands up and kicks a** on these useless slime bags.

I think our President will hunt them down. After all, he *is* a Texan. But he *does* have to abide by the Constitution, at least within US borders.

If the culprits are Arab terrorists, I would like to see the Arab nations offer to try them based on evidence collected and on their laws, and if they are found guilty, lightly lacerate them and tie them down out in the desert alive for the carrion eaters to devour.

Either that, or give them a one-way trip to the bright side of the moon and toss them out an airlock, naked. And leave them there for all of us on Earth to see and remind us of what happens to such ... people.

My Prayers are for you all tonight as I try to deal with this new reality. The world is a different place after this morning.

You're not alone

Hi all,

let me assure you from over here you're not alone.

People are stunned and left speechless by the magnitude of this

attack, people are lined up in front of us embassys and consulates all over europe and sharing your grief and anger.

Be assured also that we know this is not only a declaration of war against the us, but the free world as a whole, since this can be done

everywhere, anytime again. it will take concerted action from all

civilized countries to hunt down and get everyone involved in this,

and i mean everyone, the brains, the financial backers... .

Our sincerest wishes are with you all.

I surely had hoped for a more joyful topic for my first posts.

Regards, rob kleis

After a sleepless night thinking about what happened, I am very angry. I thought of the people on the planes who had no control over what was happening and had lot's of time to think while riding with a terrorist. Death for the leaders (cowards) that planned and executed this is too good for them. Life and the feeling of security that we have in this country ended as we know it yesterday morning. I hope our government is able to do something before the politicians take off their solidarity hats and put their politician hats back on. I also hope that retaliation will be swift and punitive.

Rkleis,

Your words is our comon thought and feeling here in the EU.

ALL flags here are flying half mast since yesterday.

I'm speechless. What a tragedy!

We are ALL with you.

Marco

I agree with Batman. It is important that we recognize the expressions of sympathy and solidarity from not only our fellow TDR members, but all others who have raised their voices against this unspeakable tragedy.

Sadly, the world is no longer the place that we all grew up in, and everyone on this planet is the poorer because of it. As many other folks have stated on this site and others, decisive action must be taken to punish those that are found to be involved in this tragedy. An example must be made for anyone else comtemplating these types of acts in the future that the ENTIRE world will track them down and punish them.

Sadly, many folks will not understand this response or have so little regard for their own lives that it is likely that future acts will still occur. We can only hope that the message deters as many as possible.

Alan:

I'm not sure what "punitive" means, but the words I'm thinking of is final and complete. People, no matter who they are, cannot be allowed in an fairly open society as we are, be allowed to continue life on this earth.

. . One thing to remember is the towers that were attacked was the symbol of world wide finacial power. There was mostly foreign nationals there. The results was not at us, but the world was the target.

. . As most everybody knows, I am no friend of those certian people, but this will be stopped here and now. The parties involved must be elimated now. NO questions are permission asked. On our own?... . So be it. Are we not anyhow? No disrespect intended, but don't look for help without strings. The reply must be NOW. Total and complete

Great People

We sure have some great folks in this group we call the TDR. Reading these words brings tears to my eyes. I thought the shooting of JFK was big, and the Tv images of the Challenger Disaster - that was like yesterday. Just as with the Challenger, I felt so hopeless yesterday. But unlike the Challenger, I was furiouse about this attack and will forever remain so... . We have lived through a History Changing Event - one we'll never forget. I have work associates in teh Pentagon, thank God they survived. God I hope I never see anything like this again! We must make sure these people never have the will to do this again. We must make the price so high, that nobody will have anything to do with them, for fear of being eliminated-entirely!
