where can a guy get methanol?

I was told that I could get methanol from a local race car shop but from dealing with them in the past I know that it will cost about 8$ a gallon. Is there a place over the internet that sell it for a reasonable price? If not where do you fellas that are making bio-diesel get yours from?

Speaking of Bio Diesel, anyone watch Dirty Jobs on the Discovery Channel? They did a segment where they made some bio diesel. The guy had it all setup in his garage, looked like a pretty expensive setup.

I saw that to. He runs all this personal vehicles and his farm equipment with it. But he gets his grease from a mexican restaurant. I woud not want to be following him eanywhere. To tempting

My local Speed shop sells methanol for 2. 15 a gallon.



The show that did the bio-diesel thing did not show it all. That fuel MUST be washed or you will damage the injection pump.

I would suggest asking at your local speed shop if they know anyone who sells methanol. I was <very> fortunate, when I asked, the guy next to me at the counter piped up and said he will sell it to me. He is only about 1/8mile away and he said he will sell it to me in any quantity from his bulk tank for 1. 89/gal.

I second the bulk fuel idea and also at an oil supplier that sells oil and other lubricants to businesses. I get methonal from the one that I get my oil from. The last drum I bought was about $77. 00 for 55 gallons.

I'm currently using the VP racing fuel Methanol. I'm paying too much at $3 a gal, but it's local and I don't have to drive anywhere to pick it up. Looking for a cheaper close place in Central Kentucky.

Well I went to that local fuel supplier today and they indeed do have methanol. It's $135 for a 55 gallon drum which is $2. 45 gallon but at leadt I can get it.



They boss man at that locaion asked what I wanted it for and as I was explaining the process he told me I was crazy!.



He claimed to have attended a 2 day seminar a few weeks back on Bio-diesel and he said that he had never heard of using methanol in the process. He continued for about 20 minutes on how running SVO or WVO would work fine but the process I described was stupid and dangerous. :-{}



My confidence is a little shaken now

What does he sell? What put's money in his pocket? If it were just a bunch of people from the internet telling me how great this stuff was I'd be leary, but biobiesel has been around for many years in Europe and there have been countless studies done by major Universities, besides, it's already on the market in gas stations in areas of the country. The smart oil companies will get in on it now.

Even @ > $2 /gal. you only need to use about 20% of your WVO to make the biodiesel so each gallon will actually cost approx. 20% of your methanol cost. Even pretty expensive methanol will still yield you fuel at a very reasonable cost.
