I am new to owning my wonderful diesel... so I know I will get flammed for askng but who has the best prices on air intake... . was considering getting the afe stage 1... any help would be appreciated.

The site gets a little touchy on mentioning $$$ , but for me I have limited $$$ so if you can do a little fabricating , then just get one of the big eng. filters and get , there goes the memory , the bags that go over the BHAF[ big honken air filter ] there cold a prefilter, and then as much of a box you want to build to get clean air & not heat from exhaust , but if you like the pricy airfilter system & do'nt mind sending the $$$ then get me one .
My air filter setup will cost $50-80 , the other opp. up to $300-600.
For that $$$ I can do the intake and a 4" exhaust .
You should go to the user control pannel and fill in the info on your truck , it makes it easyer to answer ???
Wecome , flame ya later.

Being that I am the mod for this forum, I only get touchy if a vendor posts a price and solicits in violation of TDR guidelines. That said, there are several vendors on here that sell AFE. If/when they chime in on this feel free to pm them for a quote.

If a member wants to post who they bought from and what they paid, by all means, lets have it. We all want to know what vendors are taking care of us. This is perfectly okay.

Geno's does sell the AFE as well. And Brandon took care of me.

I do not like to see answers disapear into PMs becouse thats what we're doing is looking for answers , especaly when we get the OK from above.
Just think about it for a sec. get one of the big air filters , take out the orig. air box and build a box around it , alum, tin , wood , what ever , but at least 3 sides to keep exhaust heat from being sucked in and to bring cool air in from outside [ if you take your stock air box out you'll find that its connected to the inner fender thats where it brings in outside air ] the after market systems have a couple of ways of doing it [ some even are cutting holes ]
but like I said if you want to do some work yourself than this is a good way to save some $$$ oops thats wrong becouse it will find someplace els to go , and that could be something that you can not do.

I got an AFE Stage I w/pre-filter from Geno's for my 05. They will take good care of you. Filter works great and sounds even better in combination with removing the turbo silencer ring. The torque tube is also a great combination with the AFE filter. Geno's can help you with this also.

Welcome to the club. I'm sure you will agree that it's the best $35 bucks you ever spent.

That $35 has cost me about $15 grand! Oh, well, I would have spent it somewhere. Why not feed my Cummins/TDR addiction? :D

On edit:

AFE intakes are pretty nice. I just upgraded from a Stage I to a Stage II. It seems my Super Phat Shaft 66 likes to consume a bit more air than is available with the Stage I.

I got mine from Geno's. Decent price, plus their customer service is exceptional.

I purchased a "Green" filter. Seems OK and was about 1/2 the price of a stage II AFE. Your best bet is a web search for AFE, green filters, and K&N. Your going to find quite a range of prices. You might also do a forum search on TDR this has been discussed a lot. Apparently there have been some issues where air filters have collapsed when they got wet (I don't remember the type/brand of the filters that had this problem).

and ALWAYS check the classifieds here, lots of us have bought one thing as the end-all product only to change it out...

JCleary-got all of the parts in to dyno that monster?

The AFE Stage II is a pretty nice and large filter kit (and pricy), but be prepared to have to listen to the turbo wistle when under boost.

The turbo wistle noise can be annoying, expecially when towing for long distances. Also, the rubber connector that connects the tube to the turbo should be replaces with a high temp connector. I melted/singed the rubber connector that came with the kit while pulling a 9,000+ lb trailer through the mountians of Colorado. I kept my EGT under 1,300, but the long duration of high temps must have gotten the inlet side of the turbo pretty hot.
