does anyone know if the Amalgamated DFA has to be stored in a metal container? Or, is plastic ok?

John,

To answer your question, I honestly believe that you are ok storing the Amalgamated in plastic containers. The reason that I say so is because when I received my 5 gallon bucket, Gary sent me a couple of 16oz plastic containers.

I personally don't feel that he would have sent me these containers with my shipment if they were not Ok to use. Right?

Thanks 24V-DSL. :) As I've been a member of REI for about 35 years, shopping there many years before with my Dad's membership card, that was the first place I looked. I saw two different ones on their website that looked promising...

Primus 17. 3 fl. oz. (600 ml) @ $9. 95 ea. (part # 672967)

or Snow Peak 16 fl. oz (520 ml) also @ $9. 95 ea. (part #684280)

Both are constructed of aluminum and include O-ringed threaded caps.

I went to my nearby REI store after work today on a fact finding mission as well as to try to observe (and possibly purchase these "bottles" first hand) however, these two particular items were not in stock. However, they had graduated, Lexan water containers that looked as though they would work real well. I know one thing, they do not leak... I've been using one for hiking/walking for at least 10 years now.

But then again, I'm still partial to the aluminum.

hmmm.

Also... thanks Kevin. :)

Well...

it's all academic now...

I ordered six of the Primus aluminum fuel bottles from REI's on-line "store"...

... does that mean I virtually have them in my possession? :D

How 'bout this, John....

Since you're planning on packing a lot of Amalagmated on board, why not get that 5 gallon container powdercoated... . black of course, and rig up a drip I. V. ?

Remember the Vestal Virgins? :-laf

Gatorade bottles......

Guys, I feel like a real cheapskate :-laf, I pour the additive into 16oz Gatorade bottles. The wide mouth pours easily into my tank without a funnel, never had a leak but then the plastic isn't as nice as oringed aluminum. Larry

Go John! LOL

I'll have to dropy by the REI here and see what you are talking about :)

Me, I use a 2-gallon gas can for my Amalgamated and use my carefully calibrated eye to dose the right about into my tank at fillup :)

I did something that John never does, and that is I didn't grab the additive before heading to the fueling station at the last fillup. I can tell you the ol' Cummins acts like it's addicted to the stuff now and really rattled up a fuss in the morning! After a couple mornings of this I dosed the tank and now my Cummins runs like all is right with the world again :)

John, not only has your early VP44 pump survived 80K and a lot of BOMBing, remember the Prime-Lok experience?

Just ordered the REI fuel bottles. Hard to justify, when I can just use old PS additive bottles I have. But they look neat. I am just about out of the PS additive and will get into my amagamated can. Need to figure out dispensing without a mess. 11 Oz bottle for the jetta (1/3 botlle per fillup) 22 Oz for the truck (between front and TF rear around 70 gallons at fillup) And when I get the 100 gallon refueling tank for the backhoe a 33 Oz for it. -- And some spares and spouts to get the additive in the filler neck.

LOL 24V-DSL and Vaughn. :D

Peter, I purchased the Primus aluminum bottles (17. 3 oz. ) as the recommended dosage of 1 pint to 47 gallons of Diesel works really well with my 54 gallon Transfer Flow replacement fuel tank (I usually fillup, taking on between 43 and 47 gallons).

Works for me! :D

REI also has three different MSR (Mountain Safety Research) aluminum fuel bottles... 11 oz. , 22 oz. , and 32 oz. These were stocked in my local REI... the ones I ordered had to be ordered through their on-line catalog.

However, if you REALLY want to get trick...

MSR also has titanium fuel bottle$... three different sizes ranging from approx. $54. through $70.
