Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Where can I get a flywheel?

Anyone know who sells an aftermarket or stock replacement flywheel other than the dealer? The dealer want $700 for a stock replcement and that is completely insane! Friggin' dealership!

Anyway, I called Standard Transmission and they did not have any nor could point me in the direction to find a decently priced piece, so I am calling upon my fellow TDR member to help me out. So, anyone know a place?

I'd try calling Peter at Southbend (www.southbendclutch.com). If it has to do with clutches/flywheels/etc... , he seems to be the man.

Well, I gave SBC a call and talked to Woody and he told me they can get a stock replcement flywheel @ $300. So, that is a start, but he told me he would recommend me to look around some more. Thing is, he couldn't point me in the right direction to look for one. I really don't know any other places that I thought would sell flywheels and was really surprised that places like Standard trannsmission and SBC could not help me out.

I would just go through SBC, but Woody recommended I get a complete flywheel and clutch all together because he suggested the 13" clutch application and they would have to drill out the flywheel to accomidate the bigger pressure plate. That seemed like the way to go, but again he recommended me to look around as I might find a flywheel cheaper and possibly pre-drilled for the 13".

So help me out guys, any ideas?

I can't believe that there is not one place(other than the darn dealer) that sells aftermarket or stock flywheels for our trucks! There has to be someone out there that has bought one from some place that was cheaper than the $700 dealer flywheel.....

Contact Ken Jones at Diesel Performance of Utah in Ogden. See this site for contact info.



He sells SB clutches and has a guy in the area the installs them. There's an outfit in the area that resurfaces the flywheel "cores" when you go through him for a clutch/flywheel (as they did when I had my SB clutch put in). He may be able to get one to you.

I have a take off 98. 5 flywheel with the clutch plate and pressure plate. . they have about 30K on them... you would need a fresh throw out bearing.

I also have a 4 day old McLeod dual disk for a 5 sp. [minus the disks, which I helped a friend out with who promply blew them in about 50 miles do to wrong plate install ] , the I wrecked the truck.

In the TDR issue 45 page 25 is an add for DIAL-A-CLUTCH INC. They have the LUK Cerametallic clutch an dflywheel kit. It is a 13 inch for 98-03. Check it out. I have used LUK clutches in a wide range of applications and find them hard to beat. Only thing better for some very hard to hold applications, as a Ford 2. 3 turbo, is the Center Force Dual Friction. Unless you have some very high H/P the LUK should be great.

Bought mine at Cummins NW - No Tax and No shipping charges since it's Oregon and I picked it up - $252 out the door with PowerBoosters discount. I had to wait 2 weeks for it come from their vendor.

What do you mean, what am I doing with a stocker? If there was an aftermarket one out there, don't you think I would be running it? Thats why I am posting this thread, cuz only the dealer carries them and they are friggin' $700!! Mine was resurfaced the last time I had a clutch put in and they said it could not be resurfaced again as it is getting thin on material for the clutch to bite on.

I don't think that the flywheel you have off of a 24v will work on my 12v engine.

Not sure if the 98-03 flywheel they offer would work as mine is a 12v and I think the 24v flywheels will not adapt.

I am currently running a Centerforce Dual Friction, but according to Centerforce I am on the edge of the torque rating that it can take which is about 800ft. -lbs. I am currently at about 750. I'll have to check my TDR issue for your recommendation. Thanks!

Hell no, I don't baby my truck! I don't stomp on the go-pedal ALL the time, but I usually give 'er hell to and from work everyday.

What makes you think that my Centerforce isn't going to hold when I pull? I have no money to install a SBC anytime soon, but I have another spare CF in the closet that I actually got for free, so I really don't care what happens to my current clutch.

I have a stack of clutches in my garage that didn't hold up as promised. Hp numbers are not the best way to rate... . TORQUE! My old 12 valve has plenty of that.
