The apps in my 02 quit on me today :{ , I have done the reset and things would be ok for awhile. It is time for a replacement. Are there better aftermarket parts or oem only? What is the part #? Where can I buy one?

i believe it is only a dealer item, thats where i got mine when my 01 quit. cost is a few hundred :{ dont remember exact price.

Check DTT's website, have you done the 'true' reset? Unplugging the batteries and stepping on the pedal doesn't do anything (some will disagree, just read the procedure and you'll understand what I mean)

Read this whole thread regarding APPS reset. It also includes the DTT APPS adjust procedure.

Additionally the Factory Service Manual may disagree with Rmans opinion that the battery disconnect procedure does nothing. .

By just resetting the ECM voltage to the perhaps improper voltage doesn't give the full range of the throttle movement. You really should check the mechanical position first, then reset the ECM via the accepted procedure. I just think it's foolish to do otherwise. Remember who wrote the FSM, they don't exactly have the best recommendations in all cases. See the lift pump issues if you disagree, I have a FSM, but will trust experienced users (i. e. DTT) that can provide more field experience then the FSM writers.

I still stand behind mechanical adjust followed with ECM reset. Just resetting ECM will not truly solve your problem, IMO.

I have a brand, still in the box APPS for my 2001 HO motor that I bought direct from Cummins in 2002 when I thought mine was going out. Turned out to be a turbo boost issue, so I never needed the APPS. I paid around $350 for it as I recall, but would certainly be willing to sell it for a good price.
