Hey - I'm finally retired - so I have some time on my hands. My 01 has 131,000 on her and I think I should look at getting my valves adjusted. Is there anyone of the great mechanics here in the NW available to do this? I'll pay somebody, I just want to watch and learn as well. I live in SW Washington, just east of Vancouver

Piers will be my choice. I go up to DTT once a year for transmission service, and always try to find a reason to see Piers, Louise and Al.

HVAC, Evan (The PowerShop) is about three hours North of where Hammersley lives. Piers would be another 3 hours on top of that.

Heck, for that matter Hammersley, you could come to one of the NW BOMBer get togethers in the future and have it done while simultaneously learning to do the job himself.

You could sneak over to the NW Bomber site and see when the next BOMB Party is. Lots of nice folks here in the NW that would do it for free.

If I had more time, I would volunteer like Bob V but the honey dooooo list is way to long right now.

It's not that hard

Pull the breather off your timing gear cover to expose the vp44 pump drive gear. Put a ratchet on the nut that holds the pulley on the alt and turn it till the mark on the pump drive gear is directly at the top. Now adj both #1 valves, 2I, 3E, 4I, 5E. Then spin the engine till the mark on the pump drive gear is straight down and check the balance of the valves. The standard clearance is . 010 In. and . 020 Ex.
