First Post

I'd add AIRPORTS to the list of places to not carry.

Just got my CT permit. only took 4 monthes. Like WA better - They had to give me one in 3 weeks (no courses, interviews, etc), unless they proved I didn't deserve one.

in WA most counties (not KING) let you open carry.

4 MONTHS? New London is pretty slow. They made no mention about airports on my restrictions so i asked the state firearms division and they said it is legal to carry to an airport. But not in any place they dont allow guns but you obviously cant go past the security checkpoints anyhow. Alos, any store can post signs saying "No firearms permitted" and you have to abide by those signs.

I was going to say... Whay don't they have those metal detectors at the front door of the airport, if you can't carry at an airport, but EMD already answered that question.

EMD - why is it you answer my questions before I get to ask them?!

My CC permit was at the undersheriffs suggestion, and I carried his off duty weapon for a few days till I could purchase a suitable hideaway (a S&W airweight in . 38 spec)

It was about 1977.

When I came out of court one afternoon, the undersheriff and one of his detectives were waiting for me. They told me off a murder for hire plot they had just uncovered where I was the intended victim.

The supposed triggerman's mad, x-girlfriend had come in to talk to them after she had just been dumped by the guy. Her boyfriend, had been hired to kill me and threatened that if he did not do the job, he would be killed. Sheriff's office wanted to try to get some evidence on the guy doing the hiring(as did I) so we sat on it for about two weeks while they tried to find some evidence. Then the guy had the courtesy to get high on dope and drive headon into an eighteen wheeler; problem solved. The supposed triggerman was a nobody who denied intending to do anything but who was afraid to say no to the bad guy.

Made for an interesting couple weeks, and I have had a permit eversince.

Good question - no easy answer, at least here in Colorado. Permits are available if you're lucky enough to live in a jurisdiction that grants them. I live in Larimer County and our current sheriff does grant permits. They are "statewide", however other local municipalities may or may not honor them. For example, the permits are not valid in the city and county of Denver.

It's not nice. Take a little drive across the state with your permit and you're welcome in one town and liable to be arrested in another.

Every couple of years there's an initiative to get a consistent, genuinely statewide permit system in place, but we haven't succeeded yet.

Upshot is, check the rules where you live, and wherever you plan to travel, and like most laws, pleading ignorance won't work.

As a side note, I took a training class to meet the requirements, and it was taught by a local police chief. He made a couple of interesting observations with regard to this. Since it is not consistent across the state, it also means that law enforcement across the state has different ideas about what they are supposed to do. He said if you are pulled over for a routine traffic stop in Colorado, you are not obligated to answer if the officer asks you about weapons in the vehicle. Nor are you obligated (unless you're being arrested anyway) to let them search the vehicle. Best policy is, "Don't ask, don't tell", so to speak. Second best option is to prominently display your permit alongside your drivers license so the officer is aware as early as possible that you are a "good guy", and is hopefully put at ease.

In Oregon you can carry almost anywhere. No Federal buildings, no schools, and no places that have postings that say no firearms. The other little trick is it states concealable weapons so if it is showing it is still considered a concealable weapon (better have a cwp) the nice part of the law is that you can carry a concealable weapon to from or during any hunting, fishing , or shooting events. Before I had my permit, I always had a fishing pole in my truck. Boy I fished allot.

I believe Idaho recognizes Oregon permits also.

Well on my trip to Yellowstone I will be ok in at least 2 states. Just need to find out about Wyoming. I know WA does not recognize Oregon. I think thats because so many Oregonians just buy a WA Permint.

I dont know if they could get the info very fast on the computers in the cruisers, but my little brother had a car stolen about 3 years ago.

He told me that when the officer came to the house, they knew an awful lot before asking. His, his wifes DOB, SS# and the fact that he had a CCW.

Even though you may elect to now answer at a stop, they most likley know if you posess a ccw.

I've got a concealed carry permit in Oregon. You can carry anywhere that does not specifically exclude you from carrying. You cannot carry in any Federal building, State court or try to go through airport security wuth a hand gun.

you've all skipped the obvious....

Can't carry a concealed weapon in a nudist colony or a nudist beach! :D :D

(or at least, you really, really shouldn't  )

The big one that I didn't see mentioned, maybe I missed it, is casinos here in NJ. NOBODY is allowed to carry concealed in a casino in NJ. I would hazard a guess that the metal detectors would stop almost everyone, including off-duty LE, at the airports. Up until the security posts, I believe that a carrier with a valid CCW would be okay.

It's beyond insane here in NJ, I had to check in with College security to let them know that I was carrying an off-duty weapon, according to the 'laws' of this idiot state. This was a campus with unarmed security which had no LE powers.

Doc,

There is a really specialized website at:

http://www.packing.org/

discussing many aspects of the issue.

I am beginning to suspect there is some strong

correlation to owning a CTD Ram and supporting

the RKBA/Second Ammendment.

Hey Guys, Thanks for the links.

It sure confuses things, that every state/community has their own rules. They should make it so your home state rules apply for you everywhere. :)

no wonder your neighbor hates you... . making a dog wear, essentially, a big holster exempts him from that particular commandment! :D :D

(that ain't to say that I'd never do it, though!)
