I haven't seen a lot of bad injector posts lately. Was there just a bad batch and they have been replaced? It doesn't seem to be much of a problem on the '05 unless people are keeping it secret. I also don't hear about howling rear axles with low lube levels and very few vibe complaints either. Is DC getting things right these days or is this just the quiet before the storm? My '05 is running so nice it's scary. It just doesn't feel right if I don't have a list of things that "could" go wrong.

I hope I don't have to post another "bad/leaking injector" thread. I had #6 replaced about 15,000 miles ago. No injector problems since. Maybe it was a bad run, my engine build date is 3/15/04.

I've had the #6 replaced about 10000 miles ago and not but about 4 months after the thing went back to coughing and sputter in the morning and after work. The local dealer said that a diesel is suppose to smoke and that I should not worry about anything. :--) To be most honest about this whole deal I am starting to wonder if they didn't just do the update on the software and told me that they changed the injector... Waiting for a day when I can take it back to the dealer that I bought it from and am hoping that when I am there the guy who does there performance stuff is there and I can stick it on the dyno Oo. Else wise I love the world out of my truck. It seems to have acquired an attitude though :-laf

They ended up in my truck! Going in Wednesday for service. I guess we will see what *Star* is willing to give me through my local 5 Star dealer

I had # 5 and 6 go bad, and never had a box on mine. That was about 10K ago, and not a problem since. Engine build date 1/5/04. I think it was a bad batch in early engines

I have one in mine (stock) if ya want it. :D The dealer does not seem too. :{

I've got one too. But my dealer says diesels are supposed to smoke on cold mornings. Oh, gosh, really? What about 70 degree mornings?!

Regarding the rear-end noises, I think the reason you are hearing less complaints is because its warmer outside now. My rear end noises have stopped - unless its in the 50s or below... . Dealer also says its normal.

I'm thinking my dealer is NOT normal! :(

Had #1 and #3 replaced around 70,000 and saw a little white smoke at start up around 96,000. Told the dealer service supervisor about the smoke and my mileage and he said "Dont worry about the 100,000 mile warranty, just bring it in. " But it stopped smoking so I stopped worrying about it.

I have brought my truck in two times so far because I know I have a bad injector(s). But they will not look into it any further. They did a pressure test the first time and the said they where all in spec. Today they said they adjusted the valves which didn't do anything. This is frustrating to say the least. Its not a loud knock all the time but when I'm on the highway I can still hear when I just let off the fuel pedal. I tried putting on a quadbox about two months ago and I had such a bad knock I took it right out. When the box is on my truck you can hear a loud knock. Its not the quadbox because I tried another one from my friends truck and it works fine on his. This is really driving me crazy,I want to bomb my truck and I can't because I know something is wrong. Anybody know any bomb dealerships up hear in the northeast ?

I think it is infant mortality also but my truck was built 5/30/04. Since three of the injectors were replaced, something was/is amiss in the design or susceptibility to fouling. Two of mine failed flow-wise and one did not respond electrically. Maybe some Cummins type could help out with the a little 'splanation'. :D (A vendor supply issue that one or more components did not meet specs and the risk exposure costs were less than a recall and the hope was few customers were lost due to unmet expectations?)

Only knocking in mine now is typical camgear/injection pump gear stuff. I just drove an 04 Dmax and now I don't think mine is that loud anymore. :-laf

Along with my constant oil leak problem, last week while leaving the dealership after they looked at the leaking dye, I got about 1 mile from the dealership and my truck bucked and I lost power. I limped back to the dealership at 30 mph and tech said I lost #1 injector. So my truck is an 05 and still at the dealer for over a week waiting for repair.

I have an '03 with the low rpm. (800-1400) injector knock while accelerating. I've taken it to the dealer twice. the first time, they couldn't duplicate the problem. The second time, I was able to duplicate the problem for the service mgr. , twice. They did the tests per STARS instructions and couldn't find a problem. Aparently, STAR does not test at low rpm's while under load.

I, recently, called DC and complained. They are going to have a "board" look into the problem and have given me a "claim number". The district service mgr. is supposed to take a look at it.

At least I'm creating a "paper trail" regarding my problem.

This is why I and many others run Power Service with MMO. Helps keep those 3 squirt injectors clean and lubed as we now run low sulfer diesel. Plus IMHO bombing the truck is hard on stock injectors.

I would not know an injector problem if it stared me in the face. As I am new to the CTD, although I drove a lot of diesel fire trucks in my life, my analytical engine and rear-end noise diagnostic skills are in dire need of development.

I know that when there is smoke I might have an issue... Issue is a big word for me where the CTD is concerned. I am learning though.

I just added my By-pass oil Filter, changed the oil and fuel filter. I now have a smell of fuel when at idle but no leaks are noticeable on the filter housing. Could I have over-torqued the filter housing cap? I am using the FleetGuard fuel filter. Oil is fine and no leaks detected...

Cheers,

GBoatright, since they had to swap the injectors to your new head, I bet that's where they ruined one. Yours is an unusual situation with all the parts swapping because of your oil leak. They should give you a new motor. Still have not heard of bad injectors in a '05. Anyone???
