Was going to tab my KDP today, and low and behold I think it has fallen out. All I have is an empty slot about 1/2 inch deep. My housing is not cracked however, one of the female threaded housings for the housing bolts is broken off. Now what do I do. Could the pin be in the oil pan and if so how do I get it out? All the gears seem to be in good shape. All help is appreciated.

Once in a while someone is lucky and the pin doesn't break anything. It is most probably in the pan. The next time you change the oil use a strong magnet and try to drag it to the drain hole.

It may have come through in the oil long ago without your noticing. I would suggest getting a new dowel to put in the hole to ensure proper alignment is maintained in the future.

You are a lucky man!

You may still have an oil leak where it took the threads out of the housing just below it (KDP).

I changed a housing this weekend, the pin was wedged between the cover and the missing area you describe. It did no apparent gear damage, so out came the cam and on went the new housing. Now he has no leaks and a strong housing. The pin has some serious scratches and cuts! I thought about drilling the pin and making a keychain for him, but its not a fun thing to brag about when it hurts the wallet

My . 02 is that both pieces are in /or have been in the oil pan.

Would you like Mr. Murphy to come to your place for a while? We could do without him in North Texas! :)

Good luck

Andy
