Where did you mount your brake controller?

Trailer brakes

Just got my new Tekonsha Prodigy brake controller! I'd like to know where is a good place to mount it at? I'd like to be able to view it easily and within reach to activate it manually.

Looks like under the ashtray might be good? The Prodigy can be mounted in almost any position supposedly. Anyone have any good pics of theirs mounted?

Thanks,

Pat (still having a hard time with the new search feature )

I mounted mine at the bottom of the dash under the ashtray. I set it level in the bracket so it's easy to see the indicator light on the top to monitor while driving, and just as easy to activate the manual slide.

I mounted mine on the left side of the steering column, above and to the left of the hood lever. Screwed it into the plastic.

Controller Location

I mounted mine in the same place Mr. Brewski did. No,problem and if you take it out, you won't see the screw holes unless you are laying on the floor. :D :D

I mounted mine mid ash tray with two screws. It is handy there and easy to get to. Sorry no pictures that is a little to high tech for me. We have the camera to take them I just don't know how to get them on the TDR.

I mounted mine on the ashtray. clearanced the bottom of the ashtray for wires. On top of the brake controller is the G V control unit and on top of that is the altimiter. Easy reach, don't have to reach through or around and down for the controls. I still have 100% use of the ash tray for storage, and I don't knock my shins on stuff mounted under the dash.

Ash Tray

I mounted mine in the ash tray - same as Klenger. It's very easy to see and reach - works well. No permanent visable holes, either.

Shooter: what's the "G V control unit"? Altimiter?

I like your approach of mounting the controller on the ashtray. So the mounting screws are screwed on the outside of the ashtray - correct? Does the controller get in the way of anything there? The Prodigy controller does have a quick disconnect feature that will free up some space when not in use.

I'd think my 6'0" knees would smack anything mounted to the left of the steering column getting in and out of the cab.

Thanks for all the responses, considered them all.

Later, Pat

P. S. What's the connector plug straight below the ashtray - some kind of ODB2 connector? It resembles a parellel type plug maybe?

... mounted mine on the knee bolster to the left of the ashtray. Works great!

This is where I mounted mine also. I can see it thru the steering wheel arms, and can reach it very easy. The Prodigy controller has a digital readout, so I wanted it somewhere I can see it well.

The unit was easy to install - had both pigtails(?), one from DC, one from Tekonsha - butt connected them together and just plugged them all in.

Someone said the wires were not correctly color-coded. Very correct. Had to connect by function, not color. The Prodigy is much different than my last controller. The power curves it sends to the brakes is more curvy(?) than my last energizer, which was more on or off - not much in-between.

Nice quick disconnect feature too.

Thanks for da input.

My Sentinal is mounted just below the ashtray. It had two holes there from the previous owner. . not sure why I could not tell it had ever been hooked to a trailer. It was a little tight getting a hitch in it the first time lol. The way its mounted its easy to adjust, easy to see, easy to get to the manual slide, and The ashtray opens all the way, I don't smoke but if its supposed to open. . I want it to open. Besides I think that will be a good hiding spot for a PE box :D

I removed my ash tray and mounted it to the metal plate behind the ash tray like klenger. Get it all lined up and marked, and then remove the plate and you can attach the controller/drill holes with the plate out of the truck for no mess. It left enough room for the transfer flow LCD display between it and the heater knob too, after I modified the LCD's bracket a bit.

I mounted my Sentinal to the right of the steering column on the angled part of the dash with double sided foam tape. Figured I'd use the bracket and screws if it was loose, but its on there real good and solid. Easy to reach, too.

Mine is a Tekonsha Sentinel mounted in the dash. I bought an extra ash tray from the dealer and chopped the top half of the old one off. If this "attachment" thing works there should be a picture.
