I've got a Cobra CB radio and I need to mount the antenna.

Where did you mount yours. I've got a tool box in back of the truck.

Looking for some creative mounting ideas.

BTW, I got a whip style antenna and it is about 48" long.

Thanks in advance,

Charles

Hopefully tomorrow, I will get my digital camera back from my friend (Note to self- don't loan them out) and get some pics of a few things, but I mounted mine right behind my cab on the front lip of the bed. I had a piece of aluminum 3/16" thick welded into an angle to reinforce the back of the bed because it would always get bent, and to support the stud for the antenna. I mounted a Firestik 48" whip there and its done pretty good. It did interfere with my toolbox so I had to move it forward an inch or two. If you have a gullwing box it should be fine. Does it hit the cab? Only when I forget I have it and try and back into the garage to work on it:rolleyes:   Other than that, no, but I don't really go far off road either.

Same as above, went with the fender bracket. Uses the stock fender bolt and looks great. Plenty sturdy too, holding a 102" steel whip and Firestix heavy duty spring. Be careful with the spring though, the don't leave you enough clearance for the big diameter springs. Hate for you to open your hood and find out the hard way.

I have rails on my tool box and used a mirror mount from Radio Shack on the rail. I've seen several without rails mount in the center of the tool box on the back side. The fender mounts are nice.

Firestik fender mount, with quick disconnect and spring to hold a Wilson 5000 Trucker.

This may change as I need to get the coil of the T5000 above the roofline, and it may put too much torque on the mount. It could end up in the bed somehow.

With a 4' ant. , your going to be real *if'y* on your SWR, anything shorter and your doomed using the fender location. Been there, tried it. If you mount to the toolbox, make sure it (box) has a good ground to the frame, and that the ant. , is well above the roofline and as far from the glass as possible.

Good luck.

Here is an interesting bed mount:

DON"T buy the Ram kit from these guys though! That is just the Firestik Dodge fender mount with the Firestik FireRing Coax, that will run you about $20 direct from Firestik!

But the bed mount looks nice.

If you want to find out more about CB's here is a decent, albeit a bit red-neck forum site. (after chatting, I get the urge to put the wheels back on the trailer, and use the Ram to pull the home a few feet forward for an improved view!!! ;-) Seriously though, there are some real knowledgeable guys there, esp. 'Doc, RollingRadios and OldTimer. The site is affiliated with exportradios.com which really has some good deals now and then on radio equipment. MUCH better than Copper and others.

Watch out, the BOMBing fever can hit with radios too!

Pretty soon I'm going to figure out the best way to mount mine to the T/T mirror. Looks almost impossible though to do it right. If any one has done this, please help me out here.

Mounted mine from the underside of the rear fender. Used a pieced of heavy flat stock a bit over a foot long or so. Bolted it using the existing bumper bolts and added one or two... been awhile... Then drilled the hole and mounted a pl259 mount from Radio Crap , that has a threaded end for the wips. I used on of their right angle pl259 connectors to clean up the coax going to the antenna, but it fell apart.

I must say that for around town and on the road it's fine. But off road that wip gets going and it's scuffed my the fender area above the the tail light. The pictures don't show it so well, but there is distance between the wip and the sheetmetal. The wip is mounted even with the back edge of the bumper.

is where some pictures are.

I believe that most Flying-J truck stops carry the Fire Stick hood mount for the Dodge trucks -- uses existing screws --- :D :D :D
