Where did you put your air horn switch??

I also tapped into my stock horn wiring, but I routed the wiring to a toggle switch that allows either the stock horn to sound or the big air horn to let loose! Either way, it just takes a push in the steering column like usual to get it going...

I took a "off" switch off a old grass trimmer/weed eater etc... . Works perfect! its quite the red mistory switch! I had a buddy ask what it was but I just smiled, he pressed the button, horns touched off and he about jumped out of his pants it was great!! :-laf

Thanks for all the good ideas guys. I guess I have more homework to do. My primary goal is to get an on-board air system running first for the RV tires. But... ... what good is on-board air if you don't have some horns to make sure it is working. Right??

Think twice about Grovers. The way they mount their pumps on the 12-V electric motors is not well designed and I was constantly tightening the screws/bolts on mine. Grover has a policy of imposing a service charge of $25. 00 on all orders under $200. 00; this keeps their dealers from sending in a lot of small orders for parts, and instead forces the dealers to bundle their orders together until they reach a minimum of $200. 00. So, if you need a part from Grover, go to your dealer and he doesn't have it in stock, you may have to wait until the dealer totals up $200. 00 in orders. You can order it yourself from Grover, but they won't waive the $25. 00 charge for private customers, UNLESS the customer picks up the parts in person at the Grover factory, which is in east Los Angeles. I'm close enough (45 miles) so I could do that. If you can't do that and have to have the part shipped, your $10. 00 part will cost $35. 00. One time I ordered a pump rebuild kit, and the piston connecting rod was steel. The next time I ordered the kit, the connecting rod was aluminum and would not hold the crank bearing. I drove to the factory to make SURE I was getting an all-steel rebuild kit.

The Grover horns are high quality. The Grover air compressor is junk. The trucks that have Grover horns as original equipment have no need for the junk Grover compressor.

A look at the Rickson site shows that he sells a Thomas air compressor (http://www.rtpumps.com/rtpumps/us/she/en/home. nsf) rather than the Grover junk compressor.

My air horn service from Rickson has been great.

I am not crazy about tying it into the stock horn because sometimes you just need a little toot. That is what the stock horn is for. Also, I don't want to have to flip toggles to enable horns and disable stock horns etc

Right now, I have a solenoid plugged into the stock horn connector so the steering wheel horn buttons power it. I WANT to rewire the steering wheel so the right button powers the air horn, and the left button powers a little 'beep beep' horn from a Honda Civic. It'd be fun to hit the wimpy horn first to confuse someone, then blast them with the 24" Grover. :-laf I don't know how involved a rewire would be though...



As for OBA, I made brackets to mount a york compressor to the 12V. It works well enough to run air tools(impact, die grinder, etc) and fill tires.

Actually, if you only give the button a quick tap, the horn only gives a quick toot. Not full blast, like if you held it on longer. For me though, if I need to hit the horn, I want it loud. I WANT to get someones attention. I do the same in the big truck.

I just tapped into the wire for the stock horn.
There is some delay for the air horns, so when I just tap the horn button only the factory horn blows. If I lay on it, BOTH blow.

I wonder how many people have freaked out, looking for the "other" truck. LOL

FWIW, I have seen an ad for a wireless button that attaches to the steering wheel that can control whatever you want. I don't remember the name of the product, but I'l look for it when I have time.

I have yet to hook mine up, but there is what looks like an aftermarket horn hooked up, so all the hard work is done.

I am putting mine either on the top of the steering coloum or on the left od the wheel just below the cluster (also have my airdog light there).



Viair makes a top notch onboard air system (go with the Heavy Duty one). Or better yet get there 480 compressor like me (superfast!!!)



I am going to be running 3 chime Nathan's with a 200# compressor. full 1/2" lines and a 3/4" selinoid valve.



Do you think 10gal of air @ 200psi is enough to run them???? ANyone?
