I think you need at least 30 feet.

Bought this one awhile back. Seems pretty good, at a good price.

Ebay, tow strap

This strap you bought, have you used it much. Does it have any give to it. I want to be sure what ever I get stretches a little without breaking.

I don't want to pay a fortune, but also I don't want to have it break the first time I use it because I didn't spend enough.

I am thinking about the Explorer strap. Anyone ever break one.

No haven't used it yet. (hope I never have to)

But I have compared it to others and it seems about the same material. Plus this one is 4" wide, when most other 30ft straps are only 3" wide.

The ends are triple folded and allow it to fit into my 2" reciever hitch.

I run a 4 inch 40K pound strap and the ends are doubled over to form the loops, I just stick the loop in my reciever and use a standard hitch pin to hold it.

Pay attention to the type of strap you buy, there is a difference in a snatch strap and a recovery strap. Off road websites probably consider all straps recovery straps but on the towing websites that people have linked to a recovery strap is designed for a constant slow pull (because they do not stretch) instead of a running start. Running starts are a good way to break things if your strap doesn't stretch. Straps that are labeled as snatch straps or tow straps generally have some stretch to them. Either type is ok to use, they were just designed to be used differently.

Good point Silver, thanks for pointing that out.

JCasper, go take a drive down to the sand dunes at Florence and check out what those guys use.

You'll be able to identify the guys who use the wrong equipment for extracting rigs stuck in the sand: cracked widshields, dented tailgates, eye patches.

Will you hurry up and make up your mind and buy that strap! We want to see some pics of you pulling out some Powerjokes! :D

Good luck... ... Jim

Try Pope Rigging Loft (503)228-2411 in the industrial area in N. W. Portland off the 405 freeway. We get all our crane rigging from them. Excellent people to deal with. I picked up a couple of straps 2x20 and 2x3 and 2 shackles for $80 and all are rated for 5 times the lifting cap. of 8,000 lbs 0r 40,000 lbs pull weight. I use the short strap to go around the frame or places the long strap can get cut. I went with the 20' strap because unless the engine is running, you will not have power steering or good brakes and if I need to have it towed I'll call AAA.

I am going to call this Pope Rigging Loft and see what they have. If nothing sounds to promising there how do these prices look on the Explorer straps. Is a 3" enough or should I opt for the 4". I would like to order one in the next week or so. Just have been real busy at work and at home we have a 4 week old little girl, so there has not been a lot of extra time around here. Anybody ever order from these people. Their prices seem pretty good.

Thanks, Joe
