I checked my oil and the dip stick read full. I changed the oil and hardly fulled two gallon containers. What happens to the oil , I put eleven Qt. back in. I over filled the first gallon container , but emptied the oil filter into the container. This happens every time I change the oil in both gas and diesels rigs, what up? Sure I spill a little, but there should be at least another two qts. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

PSL53, did you pour it in the right hole?

OK OK I couldn't resist. . .

If you put in 2 gallons that is 8 quarts, so are you sure you did 11 quarts (2 gallons + 3 quarts?). I have had oil changing experiences like you and my problem ends up being losing track of how many quarts of oil I have put in. Do you think this could have happened?

Then there is my favorite trick where I add my new oil BEFORE reinstalling the drain plug!

Vaughn

EDIT: I misread your post the first time. . . at least 1 quart of oil will stay in your filter so that accounts for one quart. It seems when I change my oil I never have the full 11 quarts come out. But when I drain fully then add 11 quarts with a new filter it comes out just fine (about 1/3 quart low on the dipstick but I never fill mine to 100% "full").

The containers don't come completely full, so if you fill them all the way up, it's more than what came in it. This may explain some of it.

What does the dip stick show before you drain the oil ??????

Do you check it between changes?????

If you do not check it before draining you do not know how much was in there. How much oil does it use between changes ??

Does it show full w/ 11qts ???

Checking

That's what so strange. I did check the oil before I changed it. The dip stick read full. When I was done and added two new gallon containers and 3/4 of a third it read the same. I drain the oil in the filter into the same oil pan that I use to collect the pan oil with. Then I pour the oil pan back into the gallon containers. Yes they don't come all the way full with new oil, but I fill one up to the tippy top and the other does fuill up about where it comes to in new oil. This happens with gas motors as well you never get out what you put in?

Thanks

Peter
