I was working our Police auction last Saturday when I spotted a young kid come into the Impound Yard with a '06 QB/SB. We chatted for a couple of minutes when he asked me what kind of mileage I get on the highway. I told him at 65 MPH I get around 19MPG hand calculated. He smirks and tells me he gets 26 MPG and no one ever believes him. He claims he hand calculated. Now I am looking harder at the truck. Stock exhaust under it, front end looks like he has hit a few things and he denies any power-adders. In further conversation it becomes apparent to me he neglects everything maintenance wise except his oil changes. So, where do these guys come from??? I have two Chevy D-Max buddies who swear by their MPG readings on the dash. Neither one hand calculates.

i dont have much tolerance anymore for stupid people when it comes to trucks and mpg's. if a person can't be honest i dont wanna talk to them about stuff like that. 26mpg ha ha.

I learned years ago when I had my first Ram to ignore that type of fool. When one approaches me and asks what fuel mileage I get, I always tell them, "I don't know, never pay any attention to it. " "It is what it is. "

My answer is the truth and it spoils their effort to set me up to tell me an outrageous lie.

This has been a few years ago but got 42 MPG out of an 83 Ford 6. 9 4 spd. Now the rest of the story a buddy had jack-knifed his camper trailer in Oklahoma and I was following him back to Texas. We didn't get over 40 MPH. I topped off in Ennis,Texas just for grins and hand calculated 42 mpg. This truck had a 3. 08 rear end and I was basically idling behind him the whole trip.

I chuckle at all your responses. It just kills me. I don't lie and I don't exxagerate. If I can't back up my mileage with the numbers and simple mathematics, I keep my mouth shut. Dyno numbers are another favorite of mine. I carry my dyno sheets with me because if I am going to open my mouth, I am going to bavk it up with the numbers. Never fails. Some guy has a stocker making twice mine. Here is another one I love. I drag race a '73 Plymouth with a 340 in it. I'll show my time slips at the drop of a hat but it never fails that someone will tell me he has a 8 second Camaro in his brothers sisters garage and the car is driven daily even in the snow. Seriously??? Or they can pull the front wheels off the ground at any given traffic light. I don't think they realize how much torque is required to pitch rotate a car around the rear axle and THAT is IF they can get traction. Too much time in front of the TV watching "The Fast and The Furious".

I have had 17 different CTD's and have never consistently gotten 20 mpg, if I can get 17 or 18 I'm happy as hell because I can pull anything I want to

I was very pleased with my mileage going from Maryland to North Florida this past week. On the way down I only filled up 3 times and my best tank was 11. 6 mpg. That was at a consistent speed of 65mph and pulling my Toyhauler..... 16K! On the way home I was a little impatient and my worst tank was 10. 4 and averaging around 70mph. Almost 12mpg pulling a loaded toyhauler is pretty damn impressive even on level Interstate!!

Most people decide what mileage they're happy with, and report that as fact. They're not necessarily lying, per se, since they genuinely believe the figure.

I had an older gentleman tell me a few months ago that his Cummins weighs over 4000 lb. When I tried to explain to him that the whole front end only weighs around 4700 lb, he looked at me like I had lobsters coming out of my ears.

If you want to get better mileage you need to use the old Canadian gallon as it was 20% bigger than yours. If we read the over head in miles per gallon ( instead of liters per 100 kilometers - figure that one out ) we have to add 20% to convert to our old system, so we always get better mileage up here. :-laf

A little lesson in Canadian measurements: 1 US gallon is 3. 78 liters. 1 Imperial gallon is 4. 54 liters. Our liter is almost the same as your quart. Since I started driving when we were still using Imperial gallons I still think that way. If you get 20 mpg I would think that as 24, using our old system with bigger gallons. A young Canadian would call that 11. 5 liters per 100 kms. The lower the number the better. It would be like Americans calling it in qts per 60 miles instead of mpg. Confused yet? I didn't invent it I just have to live with it. :)

20mpg (US) is 12 liters/100km. I like it. If I'm traveling 600km I'll use 72 liters of fuel. I can plan my fuel stops.

The most I've ever gotten is 22. 45 MPG during last years May Madness from Sacramento to Pahrump driving between 55-60 MPH drafting big rigs whenever possible. :-laf This years trip to May Madness for whatever (I believe it was the new flash by the dealer) reason only netted 20. 65 MPG. #@$%!

The public education system has had a problem for generations. That problem is that the quality of the incoming subjects ranges from very good through average to low.

Many years ago, as I was approaching high school graduation, a couple of friends bought Honda CB 360 motorcycles. (I think that's what they were. ) The reported to me that they were getting 36 miles per U. S. gallon. I have no reason to doubt that, even now. As was common, all of us were planning post high school road trips of one form or another. They put me under great pressure to buy a Honda motorcycle of my own and we could travel together.

Their reasoning went this way. One of them traveling alone was getting 36 mpg. Two traveling together, each on their own motorcycle, would be getting 72 mpg. If I was to travel with them, we would be getting 108 mpg.

I tried to explain the problems with their calculation, to no avail. I eventually resorted to shouting, to even less avail. (I was 18 at the time and still thought that shouting might settle an argument. )

Of the three of us, one became an EMT. Another repairs VCRs. I am the only one that made it through college. I'm not sure which made the best choice. And no, I didn't buy a motorcycle, ever.

Rbattle: He looked at me like I had Lobsters coming out of my Ears. ??? You have me laughing out loud right now. OMG that's funny. . What makes it even better is that is a classic line out of the movie "A Christmas Story". ! ! ! Great naration and choice of words. Love it.
