Mine is the opposite. I have been getting an average, hand calculated, of 12. 5 to 13. 5 with an occasional 14. I usually drive 40 to 50n miles one way to work, and sometimes go another 70-100 from there. I have made 275 miles on more than a few days, doing maintenance welding for a natural gas pipeline company. So, I have work to do in between all that driving. I have 85,000 miles on my truck now and bought it new in Dec. 06. I have to keep a record of the mileage and gallons for the company I work for, as they furnish my fuel. So, it doesn't cost me, but I would still like to get closer to some of the figures I hear about on here. I had a '99 5-speed, two wheel drive before this one and it got 16 to 19 with the same load of tools.

2007 QC DRW 4X4 auto 3. 73 axle 5. 9 with Smarty Jr. , Optix boost and egt gauges, and air bags. Weighing in at 11,760 lbs. with tools.

It's the DRW and 4X4 that keeps you from getting much higher. I've found that some bed weight--especially from cargo that fill the space in the bed, actually increases fuel economy. Most of the hauls I do consist of 4 small insulated totes that fill the bed and act like a giant shoe box to take up that space and keep the air from getting trapped in the bed and creating resistance. The trailer I haul has 4 giant totes for the same purpose (4'X4' each), but because I'm dragging it behind me and there are 4 tires creating a lot of rolling resistance it drops me to 15 MPG. I've considered an air foil for the roof of the truck to lower the wind resistance, but those run a grand or more to buy. Wouldn't mind your airbags, though. I've always wondered if they would improve the ride on long trips.

A couple of weeks ago I was at the dump and I was talking to a early 20's guy he said that he had a 5. 9L like me and we were talking about our trucks and some of the problems with it. He showed me where he parked his truck and as I drove by I noticed that he drives a second gen style 1500 with the V8. Some one needs some engine edumication

Besides so many people being braggarts don't forget the "Halo Effect" where people are asked how often they (go to church, give charitably etc) people often tell outrageous exaggerations. they may report once a month because that sounds good, but it may have been 4+ years.

not many people are good at math these days...
