Scott, I don't think you really need one for a 12 valve, more necessary for a 24. You can read trouble codes by turning the key off and on 3 (or was it 4 times?) rapidly without starting. Count the number of flashes of the check engine light, they are two digits each separated by a pause. You will need a Dodge service manual with a chart of the codes. There may be one online somewhere also. If you want to post the numbers you come up with I can look them up for you.

thanks illflem... . i was curious and i thought i needed one for the tps adjustment. cooker just sent me the link for the adjustment using a dvm off the diesel index site.

in step 7, it says to tighten the screws but nowhere previous to that does it say to loosen them. what's up? have you made this adjusment before? thanks. scott.

Scott you have to loosen the screws first, your instructions must have skipped that part for some reason. There is very little adjustment, but a little goes a long way. What is probably more important in your situation than the idle or full throttle voltages is that the reading on your DMV is smooth as you increase the throttle. Watch for voltage spikes or dips. If you see some it probably means your TPS is still dirty, try more cleaning, last resort is to replace it. If your voltages check out fine check the connections all the way back to the transmission. If the brake pedal is causing the problem it will also cause your rig to kick out of cruise control.

it definitely does not kick my cruise out. i will try to get my $140 back from the incompetent dodge dealer that put in a new brake switch last week. i have an appointment with a guy named jim jessup from cummins tomorrow and will finally try to solve the problem. i will check the tps voltages in the am.

thanks for all of the help. scott.
