John Deere starting problem

Time for my first oil change. Where do you buy your Rotella and how much do you pay? Do any major stores like Walmart, Pep Boys, etc. sell it?

Bonus question: What the heck do you drain 11 quarts of oil into?! I have two oil change pans, but I don't think either of them will hold that much oil.

Walmart has Rotella for 5 something per gallon. My drain pan holds a complete drain, but it has to be run in slow.

Wall Mart about 6. 59$ a gallon and a 12 quarts pan, of course bought at wally world too!

Rotella

Royk, Wally mart sells Rotella and Delo 400. I'm not sure about the price as I use Delo 400 and buy it at Costco for about $33. 00 for a 6 gallon case. Enough to do two oil changes. Bonus answer, Go to most auto part stores and you can buy a 4 gallon drain pan(plastic) with a pour spout. Works well! Also, buy some gallon zip lock bags to put around your filter as you pull it off. It captures all of the oil that drains from the filter as it is removed. I bought a set of filter pliers made by KD tools to remove the filter, you can"t get a stra[p wrench around the filter. When removing the filter, especially the first one, grip it at the top seam of the filter. It won't colapse there. Chris

Rotella T

Rotella T is the only thing that I will buy from Advance Auto Parts. Their price on a 5 gal bucket is $26. 95. Per gallon, that is cheeper than my local Napa Auto Parts buys the stuff for. I use an industrial oil pan in my pit. It's called an old 5 gal bucket. :D

Thanks for all the replies. I'll check Wally World and Advance Auto tomorrow.

I just realized I don't have a filter!!! I ordered filters and a BHAF ( BHAF out of stock) over the phone a few weeks ago and told him to wait till my BHAF comes in and ship all at once. Now I'm gonna have to find a filter tomorrow too. Anyone know the part number for a Stratopore?

Thanks!

If you let your oil drain overnight, it will siphon enough oil out of your filter that you don't need a bag around it. I've never spilled a drop out of the filter. Of course, if you were to drop the filter while taking it out, ... :{ :{ :{

Here in Okie World(Oklahoma for the others) Walmart had Rotella at $6. 27 Gal, so there I was at Pep Boys and saw it for $5. 99 Gal... . Ok do the math... . quick... . You need a oil change in 3k... ... . Sold to the Navy boy with a check card:D

Rotella..synthetic Rotella at Walmart

I live about 20 miles north of SLC, Utah.

Rotella can be purchased at the following places around here:

Checker (Kragen) Auto Parts about 6. 29 gallon

Autozone about 5. ??

K Mart ???

Sam's Club, about 33. 00 case of six gallons

Wal Mart about 6. 20??

HEY!! Walmart has SYNTHETIC Rotella about 18. 00? a gallon also in quarts, but I couldn't find the price. .

I realize Rotella is considered somewhat of a standard in diesel oil,(15w-40), but almost every major oil company has 15w-40. currently, Penzoil is on (Long Life 15w-40) is onsale at K mart here for about 5. 29 gallon. I wait until checker out here has multi weight oils on sale for a buck or less, then go buy a couple cases. Right now, Chevron's 15w-40 (Delo 400?) is on sale for . 99 a qrt in case lots, there's even a 2. 40 case rebate available at checker (Kraegen? in other parts of country?)

One time, I bought about 8 5-quart "gallon" jugs of Mobile 1 15w-50 at walmart for 9. 00 a gallon.

Check the ratings, I think the highest now is SL/CH-4.

Types of oil use can cause quite a debate, so I'm not recommending anybrand. I have noticed Amsoil is quite popular with a lot of the folks on the sight here...

DISCLAIMER... I'm not recommending any particular brand because most diesel drivers are more loyal to oil brands than religious zealots. I'm not starting a debate, okay guys!!

:)

I get the gallon size from Sam's. Go next door and buy the quart's from Wal-Mart. That way it comes out even for the 11 quarts I need for a change. None left over to stay in the garage.

I ended up finding it at Pep Boys for $5. 99. My Walmart didn't have any, but they did have Rotella antifreeze.

Drain Pan

If you guys had a real truck like a 1st generation 4X4 you could just slide a 5 gallon bucket under it. Just kidding, I do use a 5 gallon bucket under the 1st generation and have cut 2" off the top of another bucket to use on the wife's '94 and Dad's '98. 5. It is cheaper than buying a drain pan.

Amen Jeremy!

I like the height of the first gens too. But, not everyone is as lucky as we are. :D :D

Rotella goes for about $5. 79/gallon at the Farm and Fleet store near here. Caught it on sale there the other day for $5. 39! I use a big, spouted drain pan like Motorhead mentioned. The spout eliminates the need for a funnel when putting the used oil back into jugs.
