concealing handgun

I live in Ohio which has the worst Concealed Carry laws of all. (Ithink anyways) In Ohio it has to be in plain view of the officer at all times. On seat, locked in a locking case or box. beside you visible from anywhere outside the car... YES anywhere. And thats left up to the discression of the officer. When parked it has to be LOCKED in glove box trunk or locked in lock box. They dont want it easily accesible in the case of road rage. Like you cant unlock the box quickly and do your damage

Traveling through Ohio is tough coming down from MI, carrying it "in plain sight on your person" or "locked in a glove box" or "in a lock box in plain sight" are all bad options! I usually strap it to my right leg but I bet the truckers looking in look twice! In my little car it is even worse, everyone can look in and see it!!

Cheapo in Kailifornia

Quick, Cheap, and Semi secure... ... ... .

Go to Office Depot get a lockable change box and screw through the floor in middle seat storage area, place latest issue of TDR mag on top. DONE.

if i remember right its illegal to leave a loaded gun in your rig unattended. i carry it with me when i leave the truck. if i have to leave it in the rig ill pull the clip and stash it elsewhere. i plan to mount my holster that came with it by the shifter in the cubby hole.

keeping it visible at all times is the requirement for people who dont have a permit here.

You guys are lucky. Try living in Illinois... . or worse yet, Chicago... . Talk about being held hostage... Only cops and criminals have guns here... And I ain't a cop... :)

That 32 Tom Cat with hollow points does have the same stopping power of a 380, but I prefer my Glock 21, in my Fobus, at my side. :D I try not to go places where I can't carry it... usually! ;)

i was an officer for 21 years and this is what i learned. if a gun is not immediatly available when you need it, its of no value. if you are not ready to use it if needed then it has little value and may be used against you. because a vehicle is such a small space it is easy to search. those people who make their living at car prowling know where to look and all the hiding places. juveniles may not find it. the alarm is good as long as you can hear it. car alarms in daylight go off so often people dont look any more. one person mentioned altering the seat seam with velcro was a great idea because its not a normal hiding place. under the seat or under the dash is unless you go to an extra effort. there is gun safe box from cannon safe for about $110. it has a button combination so no key. it has four finger indentations so it can be done in the dark by feel. i'm going to bolt one to the floorboard in front of my middle seat. with large washers between bolt and box it would take a lot to pry it. most car prowlers would not be equiped. i have two in my house because of grand children, they take just a few seconds to open. got them at wallmart. sorry for the long post. robert

Lets see, the . 32 is the same as the . 380, the . 380 is as good as a . 38, a . 38 is as good as a 9mm, the 9mm is as good as a . 357, a . 357 has got to be as good as any . 40, and of course the . 40 is as good as a . 44 Special which everyone knows is as strong as a . 45 Long Colt which is as powerful as the . 45 ACP. :-laf  :-laf

There is no replacement for displacement. I think John Wayne said that, didn't he? ;)

Unfortunately I still have to pack it in the capper when driving through WI and MN on my way out west. Its too bad that the gun owners in those states can not change some of their politicians. By the way, a good source for current state law is " packing.org "

-------

Well, Minnesota has come as far as it is likely to. We have gone from anti gun stronghold to open carry. I have a letter that lets me carry in the State Capitol.

This is about as good as it gets outside Vermont.

As for packing.org, the site is a joke. the minnesota page has not been updated since the middle of 05, and most of the listed instructors no longer teach.

all my emails go unreturned. I have been an instructor since before the 2003 passage of the current carry law and hate to see everyone pass this link on, knowing how far out of date some of it is.

Sorry to be negative on that link, but it is not a great source. Best to seek out some one in the state who knows it's statutes and case law. Especially the latter. And I agree with duckcarvr - if it's not in your hand when the trouble starts, you will never get to it in time.

Just one man's opinion.

A frickin Howitzer is better than 'em all, but you ain't gonna fit one in your pocket! :-laf

When I'm driving, I keep my Smith/Walther in between the driver's seat and the center console, slid down barrel-first toward the floor. When I'm out of the truck, it's on me, on the back of by belt.

... store my pistol. Had my last one stolen out of my center console. No anti-gun posts please.

I am a permit holder. Carry it. If you want to leave it in a vehicle securely put it in a mounted vault. My fingertip code vault can be accessed in a couple of seconds. My friend uses a biometric vault (fingerprint) his is even faster than mine. Leaving a weapon unattended and unsecured inexcusable.

I carry a box cutter and have had to use it twice. They don't leave a deep cut but man, can you make a bad guy bleed!!! Both times the SOB was so scared they couldn't get their feet to work right to run and did some sort of crazy crawl, like a crab, trying to get away from me. Then it was just a matter of driving away.

quick question: (and i'm sure its different in every state) but how long after you take the CCDW class and get your "certificate" do you have to go to the sherriffs office and apply for the actual liscense? i live in kentucky.
