So where do you keep your flashlight? You do carry a flashlight, don't you? One never knows when one might run across a broken down PSD some dark rainy night. #ad

I hate it when I pull a flashlight out of the glove compartment and find the batteries are dead. I decided to solve the problem by installing a rechargeable flashlight. I chose a Maglight, the same model that the police use. It is a little pricey for a flashlight (about $100), but it is VERY BRIGHT, and it's nice not having to worry about dead batteries. All I had to do to install it was attach the flashlight mounting bracket to a flat piece of sheet steel. I then drilled a hole in the steel, removed one of the left forward seat bolts from under the drivers seat, and secured the bracket using that bolt. It only took about 15 minutes to cut the steel and mount the flashlight. Then all I had to do is find some power to hook into. Luckily I have power seats, so I tapped into the red/blue(positive) and black/green(negative) wires that power the seat motor. Too Cool! #ad

Here is a picture of my installation (I hope this works):

Nice light, but a little too much money for me. I just keep a package of extra D cells under the seat and a Maglight in the corner of the back seat so I can reach it thru the driver's window.

About the bomber. Not quite, but you look like you may be on the way to getting infected with the bug. If you do, then all hope is lost.

Even Tommy Too Stock is starting to bomb his truck. Will wonders never cease! #ad

I bought the D-Cell Maglight clips at a gunshow last year. I mounted them on the crossbar just below and parallel to the drivers side seat release bar.

I like the rechargeable Maglight but don't always use my tools for what they were designed for. My Maglight has been used as a hammer on special occasions.

best luck has been with streamlight, they are 120$ and rechargeable, its what the cops used on rodney king, bright enough to see him strong enough to beat him, thats good enough for me too... ... ... ... ... ... . B

243,

Thanks for the info about the clips.

Shame on you for using your light as a hammer. #ad

My wife's uncle's brother was on the CHP and used his light to subdue drunk drivers. That was before Maglights and he used to go thru a bunch of them.

Nice quote Brandon... you must have waited quite a while to find just the right opportunity to use it in context... Wait a minute! you haven't been around long, have ya?

Yes, I am really impressed with the Streamlight products, very practical...

"for example - having compact lights that blast up to 15,000 candlepower for a full hour between charges (up to 2 hours for SuperStingerTM) are major benefits".

That would allow me to get about halfway through a starter solenoid repair at 2:00am in the pitch black of West Texas with the kids asleep in the back seat and wife ranting about snakes and scorpions.

I keep a regular Maglight mounted with the clips to the interior roof above the drivers door.

You could not have picked a better light for the price. I have used my rechargeable Mag five nights a week for the past three years. It's been dropped, submerged, exposed to the elements and used as a hammer, but never misses a beat.

Makita makes a very nice one that uses their very popular 9. 6 v battery. Very handy! Ive used the hell out of mine and always have spare battery packs ready. It'll give plenty of bright light for a few hrs on one battery pack, and they recharge easily. Thumbs up.

Gee,
Beating up Rodney, $150 for some light?
I got the problem licked by going to the Dieselfest in Long Beach California last December.
In the goody bag was a genuine Mopar rechargable flashlight you can just leave in the accessory lighter socket. It has a small red (charging) light that looks like a burglar alarm. It has never failed me and if I loose that sucker I'm gonna be miffed!
I also have a cop nightlight (maglight) but I'd never find it if poor Rodney threatened me like he did those LA boys... ... .
Shame on you Brandon, you been a bad boy! I'll whip you with my Mopar lite! #ad

I keep my Surefire M3 flashlight in the driver's side door pocket. It has lithium cells good for 10 years shelf life. It is pricey, I paid $157 from Arizona Gun Runners, cheapest place I found that actually had it in stock. Surefire makes the brightest flashlights by far. Their lights are rated in lumens. The M3 comes with 2 bulbs, 125 and 225 lumens. A 3 D cell Maglight is rated at 20 lumens. These lights are small, my M3 is only 7. 25" long, weighs 8 oz. and has a body dia. of only 1", but are stronger than a car headlight. Sorry if I sound like a salesman for Surefire, (I am not), but if you want an extremely high quality, high power flashlight with a long shelf life, get a Surefire, expensive but worth it. Check out their website, it is very interesting.

I'm with Mad Max! The Surefire's are the light of choice of SWAT teams or anyone else serious about their work. I've trained with many different expert weapons and tactics instructors and they ALL use the Surefire. Works for me. #ad

Greg_NH,
Thanks for the idea. I bought one of those during my vacation and have had the wires strung around the cab waiting for a good idea.

I've used Maglights for years, both in the service and doing ambulance work. I like the light, albeit there are brighter ones out there.

I use the clips that 243 mentioned and mounted them across the tunnel right behind the shifter boot and under the front edge of the middle seat. Its out of site and easy to get to in a hurry. It also keeps it out of the way of the feet when the kids next to me.

I'm with 243... I use a Mag Light on their clips screwd into the side of the drivers seat facing the door. Easy to reach from outside the truck (for either finding something in the dark, or a road-side attitude adjustment!LOL)

Those clips do look good. Maybe the rechargeable mount for the flashlight head and one of those clips towards the rear to limit the torque on the rechargeable mount would allow me to mount outboard the drivers seat too!

I guess in my case the title should be plural. I can think of 4 flashlights currently in my truck as we speak. I have a 4D Mag that sit next to the console between the seat cushions, the length allows it to rest on the floor below the seat. It has rode good there for at least 10K miles of rather rough driving. My SO never rides with me in the Dodge and I rarely have more the 2 in the truck otherwise it would get in the way. In this position it is handy for inducing visions of stars upon misbehaving individuals. Flashlight #2 is a Pelican 3C cell that is very brite for its size. It has a large belt clip and hangs on the net behind the passenger seat. I use this lite when going walkabout, good lite, liteweight, nice clip. Lites #3 & #4 are both Mini Maglites. They ride in door pocket. These are good for road/trail side service and to loan to an under-equiped buddy. One of the is about 14 years old and goes back to my bowtie days and has the teeth marks to prove it. I bought some of the mag lite clips but don't know where I put them where I would remember where they were, need to do that. Also have a 12VDC flourescent lite if that counts.

I've found the three D-cell Mag light to be the ticket. It rests nicely along my right thigh in the crack between the seats (It won't move) and its very handy. With the quality of batteries these days it's never let me down and I keep an extra set of batteries in a ziplock bag in the jockey box. Plus, you can get a good deal at the warehouse stores on them ($18 for it and a small two AA-cell) #ad

I must have missed something. Mine is mounted under the barrel forward of the trigger guard. That (bracket) is mounted in a convenient location.

Sorry, couldn't resist
