Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Where does the Attitude read the fuel temp?

Did Cummins really put a fuel temp sensor in the fuel filter/heater, or is it a Bosch sensor in the inj. pump? Is it acurate, anyone involved in the fuel temp thread compared reading between a analog and the attitude reading?

I have wondered the same thing myself. I think it just about has to be in the VP itself somewhere. The fuel filter canister has the fuel heater in it and the water in fuel sensor but have not seen (in the manual) about any fuel temp sensor in the canister, Same with tank and lift pump assembly. So that really only leaves the VP. It would be nice to know exactly where in the system it is measuring that.

How does the Attitude connect to the truck? Does it connect to the J1939/CAN connector (connector by the lift pump), or does it connect to the under-dash OBDII connector?



The VP44 sends data back to the ECU over the CAN bus. One of the things it sends is the fuel temperature, that is read from a sensor that is on the FPCM/PSG circuit board.



So, I am sure that anything that connects to the CAN bus can read this data, I'm not sure if it is available from the SCI/OBDII connector.

The Attitude reads fuel temp at the INLET to the VP. If you look at the sensor you will see it is a 3 pin sensor, 1 for temp, 1 for pressure, and the other is ground/positive(not sure here)



And YES, there is a temp sensor inside the VP>

I belive the sensor that comes with the attitude is like the factory boost sensor. 5v line in, ground in, sensor wire out. My assumption at least, and you know how that goes.
