I'm fairly certain that it came out of the gear cover, but I've not found the proper hole for it to go back into.

It's a 95 auto.

I pulled it all down and tabbed the KDP -which hadn't moved in 140k miles- now for putting the cover back on. I find long bolts and short bolts and two studs that the crank sensor mount on--and then this one with the bushing?

I went and looked at a 96 auto, but couldn't find a place for it on that one either.

As you look at the tin gear cover, it will go to the right of the dampner as close at you can get it to the dampner and still get the dampner on. I have never had this explained to me but I believe it has to do with keeping the belt on somehow during deceleration. ( I just put em back where I found em)

Yup, it runs pretty close there. I just tried it on the other side and it interferes with the belt there.

Thanks Mr. Johnson.

Anybody want to guess how many times I've had the big pulley on/off today?

My mind has been preoccupied with all those springs that TST sent me, and that fancy socket I get to use on #1 DV!

Maybe I'll hear it run tomorrow. :D

Not that it will help now... . using cardboard, trace the cover or whatever shape in question and punch out the bolt holes... as you remove the bolts insert them into the representative holes. it makes re-assembly much easier.

Yep, normally do that when rebuilding heads. I managed to mix those up. When I caught myself, I already had my left valves in my right head! They had lapped in nicely so I went ahead and put the right valves in the left head. We now call that incident--rotating the valves. Worked great. :p

Digi-photos from now on.

Tomorrow to re-check the valve lash ajustment, time the pump, and install GSK and AFC spring. New plugs, wires, and rotor next. :D

You forgot the dist. cap, points and condensor! :)

I'll send the dwell specs later? You do have a dwell meter right!

Sorry I couldn't resist.

Most of the later model 12v's don't have that bolt (shoulder portion). Cummins must have decided that belt would stay on. .

Good luck

Andy
