Anyone going to Barrett Jackson?

Where else on earth can you have weather like this? This seems to be the most radical temperature swing I could find. Keep in mind also theese do not take into concideration humidity which takes theese temps to the extreem. And for 2003 In august I remember seing 106 (Plus90 % humidity and a dew point of 67) and this winter we busted out a - 19. (Pluswith 8% humidity and winds @ 8 Mph) (They are a year behind on recordings. )

Sunrise... Sunset... Avg... . High... Avg. Low... Record High... Record Low

5:27 AM... 8:30 PM... 83°F... 61°F... 103°F (1966)... 50°F (1977)

7:19 AM... 4:44 PM... 37°F... 19°F... 60°F (1965)... -15°F (1968)

About two weeks ago in Talkeenta Alaska it was -40 at 10 pm and 40 above at 10 the next AM. 80 degrees in 12 hours... nothing like a good wind out of the south.

We average temps in the 103 104 range in western south dakota in the summer and can drop into the negative teens in the winter. Pretty common I think. Fun fact. Worlds record for fastest temperature change.

Jan. 22, 1943 in Spearfish, S. D. The temperature at 7:30 was four degrees below zero. But, the times were about to change very quickly. Just two minutes later, the temperature had risen 49 degrees to a very comfortable 45 degrees.

This was caused by chinook winds. We get them frequently in the winter. The story on this one talks of windows busting and cement buckling. I have seen changes personally of 30 degrees in a minute or two. One of the ladies I was working ambulance with one day looked at me and asked if it had just gotten alot warmer. She literally hugged me when I said yes. She was 36 and afraid she was getting hot flashes.

Whoah That is insane! I remember something like that happening when I was a kid up in Vermont. I was out playing in the snow (Which at the time was 5" or so) and I remember getting wicked hot. So after loosing the jacket and stuff my mom saw that from inside and went nuts on me "Put on you jacket blahh blahh" so I yelled back its too hot! sure enuff it spiked up to 50 or even higher in a matter of 10 minutes or so. This caused Massive flooding (Washouts and washboard driveway) in a matter of an hour the wild branch river turned into a raging tored. I thought it was cool

Even thogh we get more than our share of 110 degree weather here in the summer, the lowest temps I have seen living in Tucson for two winters is about 25 degrees. It appears that our extreems are not as bad as other places. Temp ranges when I lived in Denver were from 105 to -20.

Chinooks

Yea yesterday it was -10 at 6am her on the frontrange of Colo, by 3pm we had a 49. Today we should make a sixty according to the weather. I have seen temps in the 80s in mid January, bike weather. Nothing like a nice warm downslope wind.

I always see people commenting about having a temp over 100 and 90-something percent humidity, but everywhere I've looked according to the Heat Index charts that is not possible, or at least it's off the chart. Last summer when there were heat waves back east and down south I often checked the Heat Index in areas known for high humidity and temperatures and the highest Heat Index I could find was 118F.

ToolMan if your Dew Point is 67F then your Heat Index @ 106 is only 114F. If you plug in 90%, well, you're off the chart above 200F (not likely).

We had an unusual situation here in Summer 2002 in Tri-Cities Washington where we got an inch of rain then 2 days later it was 109F. The NWS reported our Humidity was 35% and Heat Index of a smokin' 128F. Had that for 2 days. That was the nastiest heat I've ever experienced.

In terms of extremes in this area the coldest ever was a couple weeks ago at -19F and the hottest at 113F at Hanford.
