Hey All:

Family just got a little John Deere Diesel Tractor for plowing snow and doing some light grading up at our cabin. With the ridiculous fuel prices and as much work this thing will see I am not about to run regular #2. Anyone know where I can buy off road diesel for this thing here in Northern Colorado? Do I have to have any permits or anything for it?

Here in Texas you need to sign a waiver saying that you will not be using it for highway purposes. . that's it.

jrandol, I smell something fishy here... ... ... . aren't you also going to build a 200 gallon aux. tank for your truck. That sure would be the cheap way to fill it:D :D :D :D .

Well the thought had crossed my mind but with the fines I keep hearing about, no way! Really the tank is for the truck and the Off road Dies will be for the tractor, we have a tank for the tractor already that sits in our ole 72 Dodge, it currently has gas as that is what the truck uses but once its empty, time for a switch. We are going to do a lot of grading up at the cabin with the tractor(plus its fun to screw around on. ) and I am sure we will burn some serious fuel. The tractor bout broke me as is, not going to let the fuel for it do the same.

It's been ages since I bought red dye, will the station give me a hard time if I am buying red dye ONLY if I put it in the transfer tank? The ole 72 Dodge is a great truck but with 4:56 gears and a 4 speed she aint so quick or fun to drive, we leave her on the mountain and use it as our work truck. The transfer tank we will use to get the red dye is pretty small (30-40 gallons?) and I will probably just strap it down in the bed of my truck. I dont want trouble or hassles, will i be ok as long as i dont slip any red dye in my truck tank?

jrandol-

Go up hwy 85 to Ault or somewhere close to that- it's one of the 45 mph towns. THere are a few Ampride or Cenex stations that USED to carry red fuel. With all the farming in that area, I dont know why they wouldnt have it. If I think of any more for sure, I'll PM you

But now here in Texas you have to go to a State Comptroller Sub. Office and sign more than a waiver. You have too fill out a Form and they will issue you a special no tax number that will be your number forever and you have to show (or tell) the people that you buy your fuel from before the Fuel Distributer will sell you any Red Fuel . I know cause I went through all of this about a year ago and I got paper work to prove it . When I first started buying red fuel all I had to do was sign a waiver at the Fuel Distributer that said I would not run the Red Fuel on the highway but then one day when I went to buy fuel and they would not sell me anymore . I called all the Fuel Distributer in the area and they all told me the same thing .

If you are wanting it delivered to you give TEAM Petroleum a call in Ft. Collins. We get all our off- road fuel from them and they are really good people to deal with. They even bring fuel to us all the way down around Denver when we are on a job down there. I'd be willing to bet that there are a lot of good fuel distributors in Greeley too though with all the farming in that area.

Hope this helps-
