I want to place it before the turbo. Where on the manifold have you guys placed it?

Thanks.

P. S. If it makes a difference, I'm going to be getting the autometer Z series gauges.

Where to drill and tap the hole for the pyrometer probe? The experts recommend the collector port outlet part of the manifold serving the rear 3 cylinders of the engine. www.dieselpage.com and www.dieseldynamics.com used to have some really great online installation instructions, complete with pictures/graphics, don't know if they still do. But that's how I got mine done. Go check out their website and print out the instructions. If that doesn't work for you, let us know, maybe somebody can post a picture on here.

PRE turbo, if you do a search, there are photos of the install. Its easy, just drill and tap the Exhaust manifold. You need a drill bit, tap and a magnet and some grease. Just be thourough in cleanup and what little fillings you miss will be blown out of the exhaust. The phots will show where you drill. If you cant find it, ill post it again.

When you get your gauges, don't purchase a boost gauge install tubing kit. The Autometer boost gagues come with them in their package.

And dont forget the EGT gauge does NOT come with a Thermocouple, you have to order it seperatley. They have two version, street or Competition. The latter responds a bit quicker being that it is unshielded which is an advantage if you want fast response in readings.

I thought the autometer Z series EGT # 2654 came with the thermocoupler? - at least according to their web site.

Or is this not a good gauge to get?

What do you recommend??

Thanks!

Just to clarify... the two AutoMeter probes in question... are teh #5244 and the #5249 correct?

When I emailed Autometer over a year ago they told me I should use the #5244. Is the only difference the shielding? I thought the #5244 looked a lil bigger and a lil more durable as well?

Most of the gauges don't come with probes, however there are some "packages" where a probe is included . they have a different part number then jsut the gauge.

That kit number does include a probe, however which one it is I have no idea? It doesn't say.

Call Autometer and ask then.
