Where Is The Best Place To Retire

We still have our share of freaks, and it seems the farter you go out into the boonies, the more of them you run into. We don't have the Aryan Nations compound up north any more - they got sued and had to sell their land.

People might not agree with them but It is great living in a state where you can have your freedom of speech and expression no matter how politically inncorrect it may be. What is the going price for land in that area?

This will give you some idea. Prices vary widely depending on amenities such as if power is available, septic approval, water, amount of timber, etc.

As for freedom of speech, it shouldn't matter where you are, even in CA, but we know that isn't the case anymore. BTW, they got sued after they shot at someone driving by in their car (car backfired starting the whole mess. )

I believe gonehuntingagain was just kidding! He probably said that because he doesn't want to see alot of people moving in! As far as I'm concerned, Idaho is one of the best kept secrets regarding a great place to live.



Regarding that PGA course in Couer D Alene. I'm not into the sport but when I visited the area, I went to look at the course. They actually have a,,,,,, moveable island, in the lake with a green on it. They tow this artifical island around to different locations every so often. After you hit the ball out there, you take a small boat to the island and continue your game. Definitely different!

We are getting ready to move to Tennessee. NE of Nashville. Liked Arkansas but got a job offer in TN. I have been told the fishing is good (if they even have fish, they are ahead of CA). Housing is about 35% of the cost vrs. where I am now. Plus I checked on Mapquest and I can drive to Haisleys, Scheids, or Enterprise in 4 1/2 to 7 hours depending on choice. Nearest place for major work here is over 14 hours away. Will miss the cool air coming down from the higher elevations at night tho. New place has air conditioned shop building and a basement as a trade off. I'll find a way to handle the humidity.

"OK", Where is the best place for retirement in the United States?. I like the mountains and wildlife and I would like to just sit on my front porch and drink beer and be able to shoot at gophers,etc,etc... without being hasseled by the man.

I'd ck out the list. Go for no state taxes & ck the states other taxes & insurance bennies.

Southern Utah is the place

Trust me, We tried 'em all (well, not ALL). Arizona was good but too humid in summer. Flagstaff was overpriced and underpaid. Montana was horrible unless you like high property taxes, lousy weather and backward people. Southern Utah is magnificently beautiful, very low crime, low property taxes, wonderful people, and wide open spaces. Maybe the most liberal gun laws of most states. The climate is perfect all year, with low humidity and mild winter temps. Full of Dodge Cummins, too.

Wouldn't move for any thing.

because he does not want more people there. And I would agree Idaho would be a terrible place to live, you will start to run the prices up and over populate the place before I can get there in 10-13 years.

I was born not to far from here in Mayfield KY. Moved out here when I was 2 but went back every year for vactions. The weather is ABSOLUTELY horrible.

Freeze your butt off in the winter and sweat like your on a five mile march in the summer. The area around Nashville is really beautiful and your right, property costs are significantly lower than here. Just can't handle the weather.

We still have 15 years before we can retire and I want to go ANYWHERE but CA!!! By that time property will be so high in all of the good spots that I'll have to pitch a tent in a city park to live on my retirement.

He's joking with you. You will notice he lives in Idaho and is not interested in being surrounded by new people moving in, so he is suggesting you move elsewhere. i fell much the same way myself.
