I've got a 97 4x4 regular cab auto, 370, 0 plate, 191 DVs, 4000 GSK, DD Jammer turbo(HX40), ATS exhaust manifold, timing at 15. 5, with a DTT trans. Ran a 13. 91 at 95. 36. Makes tons of smoke, and about 45 psi boost. Smoke never clears up. I'm guessing I'm at about 375 rwhp like this. So where's the power? I'm gonna slide the plate back to help with smoke and egts, can't loose much power, sure don't see it gaining any. So what do I do? I want about 450 to 500 rwhp.

You should be at more hp than that with your current setup; I'd venture well over 400.

Your 1/4 mile times are going to depend on how you get that power to the ground... If you want to go fast, you've got to make boost at the line, 4x4 launch, sticky tires, etc. Don't be discouraged, I've got close to that setup and am making pretty good time (wish I had that regular cab! :) ).

There are a lot of little things to do that will add up, just keep at it. Elevation will also play with you getting boost/ fast ET's.

I guess I really don't understand these 12 valves yet. I was hoping to trap at least 100 mph+. Going to the strip again Friday, and getting it dynoed on Saturday.

Thanks for the encouragement Rhonda. I know I'll get where I wanna be with this truck in time, I'd just rather get there sooner than later. :D

I dyno'd 420hp/960ft-lbs earlier this year with basically the same set-up you have. I thought the same thing, wheres the H. P?

The thing that really gets me is that I have boost and egt and smoke, but not the power. I guess I'll change the fuel lines, maybe it's sucking air. If it was lack of fuel, I don't think it would smoke the way it does now. That smoke sure comes in handy for tailgaters. :D

Make sure your AFC is put forward. If you have good power through mid range ( 2200-2350 rpms) and not as much on top, you could not be pulling and flowing enough air. When you have smoke after full boost, that means you don't have enough air. You might have to try a bigger turbo. Your exhaust housin size influences this also. The bigger housing you run, the more air you can flow. This will bring more lag too. Also you could advance your timing more if you have your head gasket done. Try some these.

overfueled... not enough air. .

too much fuel hurts times too, but this is just our experiences at the track not meant to mean this is your problem

Thanks for the ideas guys. Do these 12 valve motors take more boost to burn fuel than a 24 valve does? I looks like I'm way over fueled. I'm gonna play with it some more and see. I'll try moving the plate all the way back and raising the boost some and see where I'm at then. I can't mess with it too much right now, this is the wifes farm truck. If the truck don't work because I blow it up, she can't help me on the farm. In the summer time it can be down for a few weeks at a time no problem.

i had 6 or 7 leaks in my intercooler. carried to a local radiator shop. they "fixed" it for me pretty cheap. 2 months later it was broke in the same place. the people that i have talked to about it said that it needs to be replaced. i know that piers and eep both offer a stock replacement type way cheaper than the dealership. eep also has a fully welded version that is a really good intercooler. hope this helps, nick

I would suggest setting your pump timing at 17* or so it will perfrom alot better on top end with all the fuel you are giving it.

Me and a buddy tried fixing the intercooler with jb weld, didn't hold for long. But when it did hold the smoke cleared up to just a haze. The 180 pump will be fine for what I wanna do with the truck, I want a high 12's streetable everyday truck. Next mod is a stage 2 head from peirs, so I can raise my timing to 17*, it's at 15. 5 now. Don't know how long head gasket will hold like this, but I'm gonna try to make it a year.

I'm off to ebay to see If I can find a 24 valve intercooler, thanks for all the help and ideas.

After you get that o-ringed head, I would bump the timing up to 25 or so. You really need to dyno/tune to know exactly where you are at.

The JB Weld held, I thought it let go when it started smoking again, guess not. I think the turbo was the problem, I'll blame it since it's dead. :(
