At my first oil change I let the oil drain overnight. Filled up with 11 qts and drove a day and then let the truck sit overnight again and then marked where the oil level was on the dipstick. It was about a quarter inch above full. This is where I figured the 'real' full mark was. THEN I replaced the drain plug with the Fumoto plug. Well - the first 11 quart oil change after the Fumoto raised the oil level a full quart above the factory mark and a half quart above my mark. I dumped a half quart to get the level back to my mark and drove on. The next oil change I put in 10 quarts total and the oil level is exactly on the factory mark. Tells me that the Fumoto retains a half quart of sludge in the bottom of the pan - and after all the hoopla from you guys who said the Fumoto let all the oil drain. Right now I'm running 10 quarts.

Question - where on the dipstick does 11 quarts bring your oil level?

I too have the Fumoto plug and not sure how much additional oil is left. Keep in mind that although the documented oil capacity is 11 qts, you will never drain out that much, even with the stock plug. I fill back with about 10 qts of oil and that takes me an 1/8 above the full mark. If you ever get to do an injector change, you'll see the large amount of oil that is left on top of the head. I'd imagine the oil galleys, oil cooler, turbo also hold a fair amount of oil that never drains back into the pan.

Dipstick.

I don't drain mine overnight, but if I put 10 qts in and 1 qt in filter I'm about a half inch above the full mark on mine.

10qts in engine and as much as much as I can in filter and it puts it just over the full mark. My son has 99 and his is same way.

Yep, the Fumoto leaves about 2/3 of a quart in the pan. I just unscrewed mine after letting the oil drain for an hour and that is how much additional oil came out. This is probably not a problem if you use synthetic oil, but with conventional oil I would be concerned. BTW, you can't simply drill holes just above the gasket as has been described on this board. The holes will be blocked by the threads in the drain hole. Next time I am going to take a caliper and measure exactly where the bottom of the pan is in relation to the threads on the Fumoto. Then I'll drill the holes in the right place.

Re: Oil level

It depends on when you check the oil level. If you check it on a warm engine about 5 minutes after shut down ,with 11 qts. you

will get a reading near the full mark. If you check it after it sets all nite it will be about 3/8 in. over full. Check yours and you will see this, becuse the oil cooler and filter drain off after a period of time.

When I'm on the road I check it in the morning, cold engine. 11 qts is 1/2 qt low on the stick.

I have the finger touch with drilled holes. I put in 11 quarts and it comes to the full line. I did the same thing with stock plug before getting the finger touch and it came to the same place on dipstick as it does now. I have not tried draining oil then later pulling the plug to see how much more comes out. Always drain oil hot but do not wait over night.

Just did the first oil change this weekend at 1950 miles. 11 quarts of Delo 400 and a Fleetguard filter put it right on the full mark after sitting overnight. It showed about 1/3 of the way down from the full mark 30 minutes after the oil change.

when I change my oil I put in 11 quarts, it shows full on my dipstick.

Looks like there are some manufacturing tolerance issues we have to deal with here.....
