2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Where the heck are YOU guys mounting CB

Hey,i would really like to see some pics or suggestions on where to mount my cb. My Mirage 88 is 10" wide x 12" deep,so placement is a concern. Thanks

Poor fellas, I've got THREE different radios to mount.



The good news is that 2 of them a smaller than CB's, but the other one is larger. But then two of the radios have remote-mount heads. And then the antennas.

I made a thick sheet metal to attach to the bottom of the dash, it has a bend in it that follows the dash and mount the CB bracket on it. Out of the way and a clean look. I wish I could figure out how to put pic here too.

Dont have any pics for ya to look at, but Ive got the same dash as cowboy medic. Took my air conditionin vents out of the center right above the cd player and did a little modifying to fit my Cobra 29 up there. Used a regular cd player installation mounting kit and trimmed it out so that it looks like it was made to fit in the dash. had to take part of the air duct out for the cb to fit and blocked it off. I only have heat and air out the sides now but that aint no biggie for me. Routed the mic around the cd player and out the ashtray - so I can stick my mic in the ashtray and close the ashtray and youll never know its there. If I can get my digital camera back Ill try to post some pictures this weekend.

CowboyMedic, Is that radio real short? How did you get it to best so horizontal? Modifications behind the radio? I didn't touch anything behind the radio and had to use a 90 degree antennea fitting on the back of the radio and tilt the radion like you see to get it to fit

This is what I use. I really like it, but if you constantly have 3 people in the front seat you may want to consider something else.

Nope, didn't modify a thing behind the dash. I took out the factory cubby hole. and cut it so basically there is just the original skin there. mounted brackets on the backside that hold the CB and Scanner in their original mounting holes. The CB is a limited edition of the LTD29 from Cobra. Had a black Face, just painted the case so it was black instead of gold. The scanner is the same size as most aftermarket radios. I have a side shot pic that may show it better. They are at a slight angle, but it sets the view up from the drivers seat pretty darn good. The scanner is a little bit hidden by the stick, but once it is set I don't don't usually need to look at it, I just want to be able to listen to traffic on the EMS and Fire and Police. There are times back home when I am the only Medic in 50 miles and so even if I am not working I might be going to a scene anyway.

OK, here's a better question! Where are you mounting your antennas? I like the look of duals on the mirrors. Does anyone sell a mount for these black plastic mirrors? They seem sturdy enough to support an antenna but how would you go about mounting them?

Mounted my Wilson the same place as DShuart. You can use the fender bolt to help secure the mount.



As far as CB's go, I have the Cobra 75WX ST. Compact and is out of the way. I was skeptical about it, but it has worked great so far without any problems.

I just mounted my antenna off the side of my toolbox. Wire is run through firwall and then along frame and up the inside body wall and through the stakepocket hole. 100% no drill holes. Plus I unscrew the antenna cable and secure it with a zip tie and I can take off the tool box in about 5 minutes and I can have my full bed to put on a topper or pickup camper without worries as well. I am very happy. Just used a regular mirror mount from a truck stop and mounted the flat of one side to the tool box and threw the other side away. Pics are in my readers rig if ya want to see it.

I took a piece of square tube and cut one side off so it would fit over the front of the pick-up box, then I took a piece of 3/8 stainless tubing and bent it up and around and attached it to the square tubing. In essence it's like a u bend with a 90 degree u bend off of it. What this allows me to do is put on my tonnuea cover and the antennea mount hooks below it and circles around above the tonnuea so it looks kinda like a stake pocket mount but with the cover in the way. I'll see if I can get a picture of it today so you can see what I mean.

On my 97 3500 I made a mount out of sheet metal for my ranger radio and attached it to two of the screw mount holes for the 4x4 shift lever. That way I did not have to drill any holes in the floor boards. I works well and out of the way but easy to use.

i purchased a mount from firestik that goes between the hood and fender. it seems to be holding my wilson 5000 trucker perfectly!

My radio is smaller than yours so it fit in the same space as the ash tray in my 96. I use the same fender mount as noted above.

I have a small Uniden that I mounted up under the garage door holder & still have access to the sunglass holder. Ran dual coax & wires in head liner down the a pillars behind gauges. If you pop that overhead console out there is a metal bracket that can be tapped into strong enough to hold a cb.
