I have been on the phone for a few hours trying to get a NEW replacement A/C compressor for my '07. All of them are made in CHINA! The OE one is a HALLA built in S. Korea.
Anyone used a Chinese one and had good luck? Anyone know where to buy the OE Halla that isn't now made in China?

I had 1 that was built in china that went within a year but was covered under warranty so we will see how long the second one will last. I also could not find one not made in china

Just found this place with the original Halla and GREAT info on their site about failures.

That doesn't mean the Halla listed is NOT Hecho in China, but I would suspect, given the amount of info on the site, that they MIGHT know where to get what you are looking for. Not a bad price either,,,$220 instead of $290. Of course, I oculd be toatlly worng and they don't know anything about what they are selling, but it's worth a call--

ALSO, this ebay auction is selling a/c compressors that are oem in original packaging" which means they MIGHT be original old stock, NIB, which also might be what you are looking for... They are selling 20 of them, so maybe they got them as a dealer, old stock closeout. Again, I am ONLY guessing, but if it were me I would contact selller and ask them about it--

The reason I am suggesting this route is that once I bought from an ebay seller an oem, original NIB alternator for my wifes Subaru that was cheaper then any reman and in fact was old stock, NIB, OEM, perfect condition.

Seafish, I appreciate the links. I talked to the techchoiceparts people and if I have to buy the Halla compressor from them I will buy the lifetime one which is the same compressor as the $220 one but you pay $316 and get lifetime as long as you own the truck with free shipping both ways.
Dam it... ... this country put ourselves in this screwed up China syndrome situation, shipping any and all our jobs that manufactured goods to them where quality means NOTHING!!!
I am 60 yrs old and have seen the major shift.
"We have IMPORTED the rope to hang ourselves with!" #@$%!

The reason they are being made in China, and people buy them is because the OEM part is $512 retail. People say they want it made here, but are not willing to pay the 2x price for the new OEM part.

Just noticed when I looked up the part they are now selling the clutch coil only (05003681AA) for $133. It is usually the part that fails. The compressors are still good, just the clutch will not turn on. Last time I needed a clutch I had to buy the complete compressor and clutch assembly for $400+.

Remember, the OEM price is with the dealer mark- up. Just like the $6-$700 Jake Brake vac pump. We all know what Cummins or Geno's get for the same part. Just because it's made in America doesn't make it cost prohibitive.

I was reading somewhere that the Chinese median wage is now $6. 50 hr. and with transportation, tariffs etc. some companies may be returning to the USA.

Well, I found the OE Halla compressor. I talked to the shop about a 10 compressor group buy. I bought TWO from him figuring sometime down the road I will need another one and they probably won't be available.
According to him the '06 up compressors, even the OE ones don't last as long as the '05 down SANDEN compressors. If you guys are interested in buying one now for future let me know. We get a price break at 10 units.

What is the price? Mine is moaning and clunking and I'm sure will be the next thing I have to fix on my truck. I would be in for 1.

Chris, glad you found what you were looking for... but you guys just keep giving me more reasons to love my 2005!!! lol

Seriously though, any reason the Sanden won't fit on your truck instead of the Halla??

There is a company in Peachtree City, GA called MEI. They supply a lot of the local big tuck and equipment shops. They primarily sell sanden, but have seltec and maybe one other brand. I have used them extensively for custom installs.
Also, earlier this year I put a 4better seasons rock auto compressor onto a 07 3500. It was identical to the factory one that came off, right down to the manufacturers part number. The only thing missing was the Chrysler sticker and 200%the mark up.

Do you have the part#?

Perhaps I am being naive here, but I still dont see why one couldn't use a 2005 compressor on a 2006 system, unless, of course, pressures are different. The only thing that I see that is different between the 2 compressors is the wiring plug, which could easily be swapped, and the length, which MIGHT be an issue. I DO realize the 2005 wiring is PDI versus 2006 being Can-Bus, but maybe a relay placed in beteween the plug and compressor could correct that.

Of course, this assumes that the 2005 is indeed a better built, longer lasting unit.

Here are pics of the two--

The left pic is the 2006 Halla and the right pic is the 2005 Sanden.

If anybody wants, I could get compressor dimensions and clearances from my 2005 for comparison to their 2006.
